Smile Newbie Here...Hey there shark addicts

I would like to introduce myself and say hello to all the shark enthusiats here.

My name is Chris and I live in Boston, MA, USA.
And I am a 'Porsche-a-holic'....

I began my experience with Porsches when I was 11, when I talked my parents into buying one (much to my surprise) that I had been admiring in Road & Track. So I grew up around them.

Now for most of my adult life, I have owned and driven nothing but Porsches. Older, water-cooled Porsches because I am not rich. After my 924 (which i saved from the salvage yard and rebuilt myself) got too old and needy, I swore I would switch to a cheaper, more reasonable and practical vehicle. I test drove Jeeps, sedans, all kinds of cars. They all felt cheaply made and handled terribly, even the new cars, compared to that old fully-loaded 924 that I was used to. I really tried to switch, but then I laid eyes on this gorgeous burgandy 928S and was hooked....And now here I am today, having owned and driven nothing but Porsches in over a decade. Well, Porsches and motorcycles. I guess there is no hope for me, as now I find myself debating whether my next car will be a 911 or 928S4. This will be in a few years down the road, and I'm planning to keep my current S. Yep, I'm a practical guy...

This is a difficult city in which to drive and maintain such an extraordinary car as the 928, but I have made it work. I have had my '83 928S (5-speed) for over 6 years and have done some wild and wonderful road-trips around the country in this car (I believe that the 928 is probably the best grand touring car ever built). This car has also been used as my 'daily driver' (but living in the city, its never really driven daily and I often ride the motorcycle or take the T instead). I've used this car as a commuter. I've driven this car loaded with my snowboard and winter hiking gear through all-out blizzards, past scores of SUVs that were stuck in snowbanks. I havent babied this car but I have admired and respected it, driven it like I believe it was designed to be driven, and she has been very good to me.

I do most of the repairs and maintanance myself, on both my car and my motorcycle. Living in the city, this can be difficult (as many of you know). For the work I can in plan for in advance, I travel to where I have garage access and keep most of my tools.

Anyway, enough rambling on and sentiment about my cars <sniff>.

I recently found this site and have been very impressed by it. The rennlist seems like a happening place with a huge resource of technical knowledge and Porsche savvy. Although I'm not nearly the Porsche technical guru that many of you are, I have learned a thing or two along the way and will try to contribute to and enjoy this rennlist board from time to time.

Cheers,
Chris

Chris,

There is no cure and nobody is working to find one. Make sure you use the 'Search' tool to look over the archives of DIY problems you'll find.

Welcome aboard.

Hey Chris, welcome! While I store my babies for the winter, its nice to hear of a few Porsche owners that refuse to stop driving them. Do they cover the streets in salt over there?

We have an S4 owner up here in Wisconsin that can give your TL1000R a run for its money.

Hiya Chris! Welcome to the rennlist. Become a member.

Shark addict..... yes, I admit I'm one of them. Matter of fact, I went on an excellent shark bender last night. Tick tick

I lived in Boston a couple years ago, and had my 80 928 A/T while in town. I couldn't imagine having a 5sp though, and actually, I bought an Integra to deal with the other bumper cars.

Give him a break Beth. I had "Gretch" for 10 years before finding the Rennlist. (course that is 'cause I am such an independant cuss).

And I might point out that while the 'list is generally a positive experience, I have blown more $$$$ on my 928 in the last 2 years than I did in the first 10 years. (90% of which has been "upgrades"). THAT is a DIRECT result of my Rennlist membership..........so yup, it is addictive.....

BTW, Chris, welcome. (My week day address is Beantown, my home is in the mountains, so we may run into each other some day)

Not "subversive", subliminal: "spend more money" "rinse and repeat".....
