Burning Brakes
Poetry for the 928
Poetry for the Porsche 928 by Harvey Carlisle
The Porsche 928 is getting very rare
Get behind the wheel and you will stare
You must treat them with lots of care
Driving them to their potential could be a scare
Only 61 thousand were ever made
Some are showing their age and begin to fade
If you don’t get a PPO you can get played
And spend lots of bucks over what you paid
Some people prefer the newer GTS car
To most of us they have a certain star
From glancing out the window of a bar
We can tell these cars from a distance that is far
OB, 86.5, S4, GT, and GTS are just a few names
Pure and clean is what most desire not tricked out with flames
When we have accidents, we do file large claims
Oh, yes these cars do attract the dames
Hear that motor fire up and come to a roar
Send off the LH or EZK and pay for the core
For parts you do not shop at the store
Call Roger, Dave and Jeannie or Mark and don’t be a bore
TBF, PK Klamp, and a set of Hans speakers
Grab a set of those clear new blinkers
For sure these cars are one for the keepers
Those that don’t have one we call weepers
4.5, 4.7, 5.0 and 5.4 are just the right size
These Porsche engineers were quite wise
5 speed or auto they still bring you certain highs
The 928 community has very tight ties
Rennlist, and Pelican are trusted sites
Sometimes things get out of hand and we see a few fights
Those can be some very long nights
Newbies are the one that give us the frights
In the beginning you are $10,000 away from a $5,000 car
But as you work on them, and get to know them you become a czar
People like Dwayne, Sean, Andy, Colin, Roger you know from a far
They speak from knowledge gained working on them not from a bar
You hear holy **** a lot when doing you own work
Digging thru the manuals you will lurk
Start a thread and sift thru the murk
Just don’t treat people bad and be a jerk
We call our cars Sharks for a reason
They take a bite out of us all season
Parts can be expensive as hell but it is not treason
We love the Porsche 928 who needs a specific reason
Andrew owns the first prototype and it is in great care
Jim and others found the car and knew it to be rare
In Atlanta it was on display for all to stare
Born in 1977 it does show a little wear
Back to the 928 and it’s owners we go
You see them and talk to them and you see a glow
After a while your collection will begin to grow
Your passion for the 928 will cause a wallet to blow
But go live life without one and you will be back for one
Once they are in your blood you will never be done
Go to an event and take the fun run
Love them, care for them, like you would do for your son
In the end these cars still turn heads as we drive by
We plan on having them to the day we die
Unless you own one do not ask us why
For they are pieces of heaven fallen from the sky
