ErnestSW,

Beautiful! Thanks for the pix. Hey, does anyone here know what wax is best for Guards Red? I've been using One Thousand Blitz Wax on my BMWs with great results but I've heard that carnuba is not necessarily the best for German RED paint. I would appreciate some thoughts from the pros here. Many thanks!

JohnT53,
Hey, are you in Chattanooga? I grew up close to there in Dalton, GA. What independent tech(s) do you use in that area? I'm planning on taking my 89 s4 up there around Christmas...always good to know of good shops in the area...if something should go awry.

Best,
Tim

Tim,
Zaino. They make a polish for non clear coated paint also.

Hi, Tim--I'm not in Chattanooga, I live in Cleveland, TN, about 30 miles north, but I take my 928 to Bavarian Motor Works (no affiliation) in Chattanooga. They are located off 153 not too far from the airport, at 6150 Enterprise Park Drive. They do good work on my car, are good to deal with, and I have seen other 928's in there as well as 911's and 944's. I was referred there by a local 928 owner when I moved to this area two years ago. Ask for Trisha, the owner--(423) 499-8801. Regards,

ErnestSW, your car looks great. I just sent off for the Zaino kit for clear coated cars. Did you claybar your car? If so, do you think that made a lot of difference? Just curious--I haven't used claybar before.

Johnt,
It is not recommended to use a clay bar on dark colors. If you do, you must be extremely careful as you may deposit microscratches in the clear coat or paint. Black shows the microscratches worse than any color.

Before I had my car painted it looked hazy from the fine scratches in the paint.

BTW, Only use terry cloth or microfiber towels. Do not use a chamois as it will scratch the paint as well.

Ernest, your car looks great!

Ernest, sometime back I tried to tell everybody about Zaino but nobody responded. I think it's the best and easiest stuff to use and lasts almost six months. It gives the wettest look out of any other product on the market and your car doesn't attract as much dust. Whenever it rained I used to get little round spots of dirt left over from the water beading, now if I get caught in a rain storm the car looks just has good after it dries. Reno

Ernest,

Beautiful results on your car. I too use Zaino and I can honestly say that no other product has given me the reflectability that Zaino does. My car is Silver Metallic and until I tried Zaino, it just never had the "pop" that it has now. Currently, I have about 4 layers of the wax and then every couple of weeks I give it a spritz with the Gloss Enhancer. I love the smell of it also!

Hey guys,
I started to use the clay bar and ended up scratching the paint just like Scott said. In the interest of getting the paint as clean as possible I actually used a fine compound with a Porter Cable polisher for the prep. With a black car it's impossible to get all the marks out. The car looked dull after I finished. The Zaino was actually applied right over the freshly , but lightly compounded clear coat and it's produced the deep, wet, look that I NEVER got from a wax. It's also the easiest product I've ever used.
All the rest of my cleaning/polishing/waxing/etc crap is going into the garbage.

Hey Ernest -

Yep, Zaino is the best......more people finding out day by day.....

What was the problem with the clay bar? Was it theirs or different brand?

I have used Zaino since they existed but never tried the clay bar until
6 mos. ago. Used it just as they stated with the lube spray and all and
found that my car came out even better then before.......almost glass like.
Actually their clay is pretty mild compared to other brands.

I used the Zaino clay bar at first, but didn't like the scratches. I guess you had better luck or better technique than I did.

Hi all: I have black maybe 9.0 on a 10 scale, with what look to be tiny water spots. I've looked everywhere online, carcare.com, etc. The local paint shop (auto) recommended Meguire's clay bar. I believe they also said (the computer said) no clear coat on Pcar's black. Anybody know for sure? I tried the bar on a freshly washed rear area and saw no scratches nor improvement. I'm inclined to believe these marks are acid rain, as they seem to be finely etched into the paint. Wouldn't water marks, sap, anything that is surface respond to clay and then a quality wax? From a distance she shines, but I would love to fix this with less an expensive paint job. Thanks.
