The Chicago Trip
This is a good example of 928 travel:
I made the run from STL to Chicago in the 86.5.
She did not disappoint. All the recent frustration on her fiddly project work were forgotten quickly. She is a GT, after all.
She is at her best at high speed for extended time. Lets' just say I got to and from the destination easier and faster then my professional peers that decided they would fly ... to save time.
Plenty of smiles and double takes as people see the car go by.
I will note, however, that if one drives a 928 at speed for 3.5 hours... you don't want to sit in stop and go traffic afterwards. Ouch, glad I had the switch wired in to turn on the aux. fan.
Got to see Ryan, his car, and very nice family the first night -- and share a few beers and stories... thanks again for the hospitality buddy.
At the drudgery of the actual business meeting, I was heavily recruited by a SCCA guy who happened to also be there and see the car roll in.
Ah, and then here is the flip side of the 30 year old iconic car: my odometer gear failed, my new OEM cowl that had been replaced six months ago got hung up and chewed by the windshield wiper carrier arm, and my jump post cover came loose
It's a process right?

Good to hear about your trip. As far as your cowl... in case you didn't know there are 3 or 4 clips under the slim body panel piece that is under the wipers. You have to slide the back edge of the cowl into these clips, which keep it away from the wiper mechanism. They are hard to see, I just learned about them recently after 4 years with the car...

Was great to have you up to talk shop, drink beers, reflect on the Cubs magical 2016 Campaign and get to have an actual driving 928 sitting my driveway.
Dena, and her sister, both loved the wine so thank you for that.
Looking forward to returning the favor once I make it back down to St. Louis! (and speaking of - went to Pappy's for lunch on Wednesday. Was a bit underwhelmed, and liked Sugarfire better).

Cool story bro, these cars will be running better when you get to the end of a trip .
the plastic cowl will get lowered if you push on the trim panel at the base of the windshield,
this can happen when it gets waxed

Also, I was able to revisit the issue we had discussed about my concerns with the spoiler delete on the way home... she did sit down well and didn't move around, must have been the road conditions in MO.
I was not aware of this sabotage until back in STL, they stopped me at the state line checkpoint. As you know, we funded these stations to prohibit the Cubs fans from entering the metro area.
Kentuckians, are allowed admission but must pass a rudimentary IQ test...
Anyway, there was a lot of explaining. No cavity search, but a hefty fine.
