Default Wayne drives a 911 Turbo with "928 style" headlights

Chasing Classic Cars featured a '94 911 Turbo "Flachbau" last night. Flat nose, not slant nose - I was not aware of the difference. [EDIT: this is incorrect; the truth is complex - see post 23.] Wayne said the headlights were "928 style." I don't think I've heard him utter "928" before. Only 20-something produced, $1M plus.

Looks like the lights are oval, and don't come up fully vertical:

What did you do with your "928 Flachbau" today?

Those are like 968 headlights.

There is some debating if Porsche ever did such a conversion or if only the aftermarket did:

Honestly, kind of disappointing Wayne doesn't know the difference.

I've wondered what Wayne thinks of the 928...or if he thinks about the 928 at all. I've never heard him say "928". Very likely those ARE 968 lights.

I do have to say I like the look - but not as much as my 928 sitting outside...

Today, from this thread, I learned that 968 headlights pop up. I now know something that perhaps Wayne does not know. I also feel more drawn to owning a 968 than before, don't know why.

It's about 100,000x better looking than an actual "Slant nose".

Curt,
I've never seen a black "bugeye" before.

I've always wanted a 968 convertible 6-speed. Sadly I think I've missed the boat since values of those has risen a decent amount. Not stupid 911 money, but more than I want to pay for a 4-banger with 236hp and maintenance on par with a 928.

I'm tempted to drive a tiptronic version, see how bad that would be, since some famous person once said about convertibles: "You want an automatic so you can wave at people"

Thanks for grabbing that pic Tony, I was just going to start looking for it when I saw your post.
Yes, that was Wayne with Blumaxx at the PVGP a couple years back. He really liked the car a lot. They weren't quite as "hot" (relatively speaking) then as now. I am guessing he very much knows the difference with the headlights in the subject car above, but the common parlance has always been to refer to them as 928 style headlights. In fact, even the 968 crowd refers to them as 928 headlights.

Quite right, they did not come in Schwarz. Not far away were two Opel GT's, which have their own headlight peculiarity: they rotate "sideways", 180 degrees around the car's longitudinal axis, by throwing a substantial lever.

Can't be much different than an auto 944. If you are ever in my neck of the woods, a buddy of mine has a 968 Auto but it's not a convertible. I'm sure he will let you try it.

My Sonnett also had a "substantial lever" to perform the same operation. Well, substantial compared to a switch at least. Back to P-cars, I think the 968 is a very attractive machine.

I've got a better version you can drive - a 928 convertible with a 6-speed

It will be at the Road Atlanta Mitty race on the 22nd if the weather is good.

The rarest one of these factory
Flachbau cars is one with the option code, but that doesn't have the lay down lights. I think maybe Richard Sloan has a couple.
