Powder coating the external surface of those pipes is probably the best thing you could have done cosmetically and corrosion protection wise at the ends. It will be interesting to see if the coating can resist the evil brew formed within the crevice if we live long enough!
One trick is to ensure the clamp is as close to the raised lip as possible- if there is distance between the raised lip and the clamp the fndamental problme will be exaggerated. The other may be to cut the raised surface off altogether given the pressure in the cooling system is very low then the hose will be in closer contact with the pipe it slips over..
To be fair the originals have for the most part lasted many years so not exactly a disaster evne though most if not all will be in a similar state.
