I'm back into 928 with this '78 Euro
This will be my 3rd (the other two are gone) 928, and I think it's a great way to get back! 1978 Euro 5-speed, mocca (repaint) & brown pasha, no sunroof or rub strips, and (supposedly) mechanically sound and a great runner. It was Longrunner1's former car.

Cosmetically, I'll address a few things and then enjoy it this summer with my 12-year-old son.
One of the most noticeable issue is the upholstery. Someone mentioned that the tan/brown pasha is still available, but the other colors are not. Can anyone provide info on that?
Also, I'll attempt to repair or replace the dashpad. Any advice or sources for this project?
If someone runs across an original '78 radio, I'll happily trade the vintage Alpine in on it!

Sweeet...and welcome to the mocca club IIRC..Blk/Tan, Blk/blue, Blk/White pascha fabric choices are still available, Blk/Brn is not. I have collected a number of original radios. None are completely functional. Check to see if the tuner box is still present behind the console mounted on the aluminum plate on the tunnel. I wound up using an aux adapter that plugs into the factory DIN plug for my ipod thru the original unit.
Looked for someone to rebuild them for some time. Found one guy over in Europe that sells the rebuilt units on ebay for big bucks. He has a year plus wait list on servicing them. Just fyi

Thanks Tony! Both my priors were gold (Hellbronze) with brown interiors. I have to admit that I'm more attracted to the oddball colors, but I certainly never thought I'd have a brown one. I'm really looking forward to getting this one home. Tinkering on them & fixing all the little issues has always been extremely satisfying.
I read the thread on your car, and have to say that it's stunning! I'm also in the camp that likes the pinstripes, even though they're not original. They certainly evoke the feel of the '70s!

That sounds like a great option! I wouldn't mind at all if I could somehow use my phone for tunes, while retaining the original look of the head unit.

The dash is NLA, Rob Budd can recover in vinyl or leather - looks great but not "original" as it has stiching, and is a cover, not vacuum formed. " Dashes only " can vacuum form, but looks puffy, and as your dash is brown they cant replicate the "mottled" coloring properly. (see "minerva" thread for how a cork dash turned out - looks OK but not correct either. I've been in touch with an outfit in Germany that has a process to do 924 and 911 dashes, and supposedly has the coloring down, and also builds molds to vacuum form to an old frame. i may send a spare dash there just to see what they can do.
Radio's are a major pain. Most don't work. My plan is to get nice ones that light up in my dash, then drive a small, totally hidden powerful amp with hidden on/off switch and bluetooth adapter to produce sound from my phone, and just play iheart radio or ipod off it. About 1-1.5k for nice original CR working unit with tuner. More for ROW in my experience. You find one, buy it.

Will go into my Petrol car for show only and I'll have a repro made either with tan/black or try to dye white/black to brown black - some have tried but I believe some success was made with a "dry" dye.
Beautiful car and wrenched on by one of the best, Pete "Panos' Karrassas. Great starting point - car is a strong runner. Love it! Make sure to bring to some of the events and meet the crazies.

A few things that I've noticed :
the horrible 3rd brake light - that will be removed immediately.
Rear deck has 4 holes where someone once thought a wing should go. Thankfully that was removed, but it sure would have been nice if they would have filled & repaired the holes.
rear deck also seems to be missing the surrounding trim piece for the lock. Would that have been chrome like the ones around the door locks? I'll have to look at some photos of cars here.
One of the rims looks to have a nasty scratch in the paint (hopefully not into the metal), so those will have to be refinished.
Rear bumper-ettes - I'd like to de-federalize it and put it back as originally built. This means removing those
Headlights - I don't believe these are the original Euro-style, correct? I need to do some research & find out what I need & where to get them.
I don't even want to get into the interior yet... I know that the driver's side bolster is typically worn, and it will need new seat foam & at the minimum, a piece repair. Dash is cracked in several places, and the pod has one crack. I'd like to find an excellent replacement, but it might not be possible to find any and repair may be the only option.
And mechanicals - well, I may have a 2nd gear syncro issue. I'll have to check into that closely when it arrives.

The rear deck lock trim piece is a rubber surround and is available new from Porsche as is the one around the ignition switch. Just bought both for my '79! The car would have originally come with H4 headlights that have no chrome trim. I believe the trim around the door locks should be painted satin black.
