Default What to do with an 86?

I have this 86 that I bought on New Years day. Now that I have the time and the weather is better, I am going thru this guy and all I want to do is sell it.
I think that it would be a good car for someone wanting a track car.or a parts car. It does not have limited slip but it is a 5sp. It runs but the PO was living on food stamps so the maintenance is a bit sketchy. Body is Ok, the left front fender has been either replaced and painted or repaired and painted. Interior is kinda Ok ( black ) Dash is cracked as well as the pod. Today I put new bushings in the gear coupling just ahead of the box. Now at least I can get it in gear. Not knowing the condition of the TB, I'm a bit hesitant about driving it. It does run and starts up and idle's easily. My current thoughts are just putting it on eBay and being honest about it and see if someone is interested. It's got 183k on the odo.

Transmission is worth $2-3000 easily. People may want the car for $5000 if the interior is fair. I'm tempted but my wife will have a heart attack if I transport 3 928 home at the same time. She's only in her 30s! Sell it whole.

Good luck with your decision- hoi

It's an interesting question vanster. As a manual runner, I would assume it would have a good chance of getting picked up by somebody and becoming a driver with a little (or a lot) of TLC.
I would sell it whole as well.

Any Pic's?
As a reference, I bought an '85 32v manual runner from docmirror delivered for 3k.
It cleaned up OK, has rear quarter damage, ruff full leather interior, runs and drives great.
Thinking may be my next DE car.

Edit: I must of vacuumed out a pound of nuts from the engine compartment

Jezz.... Kevin, you are so very very generous. I'm trying not to loose any money on this project. I do believe for the right person this is a good deal. How many 5sp 86's with ABS are out there? One thing to consider is that the registration has not been updated since 2014, not sure if there are any penalties involved. I never registered it, all I have is an undated signed title. The PO had someone paint the left front fender due to some damage. The headlights were up when I bought and I found that the entire mechanism under the bucket had been removed and a wood rod was holding the light up. Doing it this way was something I never considered.

Yes it should be worth well north of what you have into to it, I was just teasing as any project I come home with right now needs to include divorce papers.

All 86 5-speeds had ABS. What are the last 4 numbers of the VIN. If it's over 1000 it has the S4 underpinnings, brakes, suspension and such. Does it have a sunroof?

Thanks

It's not an 86.5. It was built in July of '85
I'll take more pics later on today. Rub strips and a sunroof

That is an awesome driver/beater...someone will scoop it up...keep the headlights 2x4'd...it gives it that beater patina

You need to post a price or put it on the bay where we can bid.

I'm going to post more pics and a projected price tomorrow. I just need to take decent pics. I have spent the later part of the day poking thru it, learning about what works and what doesn't. It didn't have the nylon hatch receiver so the hatch was always open. I happen to have a new one so I installed and closed the hatch only to learn that now the key (red) will not open it. I have this burning desire to restore it...... then the fever goes away. Then a few gin and tonics ....no... I'm going to pass it on. All of us, here know the real value of this car and I need to come up with a value for RL and a price for eBay buyers. In my opinion the fraternity of the 928 group is important to keep the price within reason before putting on the open market.
