Nice

The best price I could find from a European seller was $35 USD.

I bought the front and rear seal at:

https://www.x1-autoteile.de/

Approx US$ 29 for the rear one. Shipping to the Netherlands is of course cheap from Germany.

What an interesting thread!

I figure out what the problem is, tell everyone what seal to use, and Roger sells it....and ends up being the "hero".

My son walks into my office, hands me a copy of this thread, and asks me, "Why do you bother telling people what you know? How did the time you spent figuring this out and then telling people what seal works best benefit you?"

Truthfully, I just stared at the thread for a few minutes and finally said, "I don't know."

He says, "It's time for you to apply what you know only to your own clients and retire from telling people how to solve their problems on the Internet."

He's a very smart kid!

I can't speak for everyone else. All I can tell you is that you are unbelievably generous with your time, knowledge and advice. I can't thank you enough for all the help you have given me in my various threads.

I, too, wonder why you would do it but I am forever grateful that you do!!

I am no hero at all - just savvy with parts.

I spend hours on the phone and email sharing what I know about 928's and I am very happy to do that - and as I tell people "you do not have to buy something".

Look around and see how many others share their findings on Rennlist and do not ask a "bean" in return.

We all appreciate your information and as you know hang on your every word. It would be a shame if you retreated into a cell.

Greg - if you are selling the Elring crank seal I will back out of selling it so everyone buys from you - no worries.
No way would I step on you and your sons toes.

Hi Greg, I know that I am not the only person with this same opinion, but you definitely qualify as a Hero in the 928 world. With all due respect to the wisdom of other very smart people here, many times I will scan the threads just to find YOUR comments. You have a very unique combination of gifts/talents that are apparent from your posts here:
1 you are obviously an accomplished mechanic
2 you are an excellent observational scientist
3 you have the ability to look several steps forward and backwards when analyzing failure modes
4 you are an excellent teacher
5 you are generous with your time and abilities.

I would gladly pay some sort of subscription to have access to your advice.

Thank you, seriously.

Dan

Not about you, my friend...just about me.

Been looking at some of the things I do in my own life.

Not all are time well spent....and everyone runs out of time.

Time to start that "How To" book we talked about a decade ago. Or at least let Jake start recording you on a daily basis. Rog has been feeling the same about time lately and it's damn depressing.

Quit this talk about taking your ball and going home, if you do like so many others, when that time comes that knowledge will be gone forever.

Well Folks let just look at this for a moment.
Everyone has their unique talents.

Greg as a the very well taught, experienced and somewhat curmudgeonly teacher,
not to mention the thought provoking wisdom he dispenses.
What he can say in a few words could take others years to acquire.
Some people here can speak his language and that means they can also hear his message.

Roger as a tenacious problem solver and perfectionist,
that strives to provide excellent parts to the masses.
He will go to great lengths to provide the best for the least, thats how he rolls.
This is a rare type of business model, but he follows it anyway ,to our benefit.

Fortunately we are quite blessed to have both of these masters giving their talents and time to keep these wonderful machines on the road.

I learn from them every day.
I see these guys and the many others that give ,
as part of a bigger wheel,
and every part of that wheel is needed to make it roll.

Lets keep em Flying!

Greg and Roger are two different kinds of people. Both are very much needed in this community. Gregs knowledge NEEDS TO BE PASSED ON. His son needs to see this too. One man will not serve the nation and if something happens to him, everyone loses. He will be taught but a brain trust of owners with this knowledge as well as a database maintaining a searchable pile of data is what is going to keep the owners of these cars in them and KEEP GREG'S BUSINESS GOING and ROGERS BUSINESS GOING. Without owners willing to dive into these cars all over the world knowing there is somewhere and SOMEONE(s) they can turn to for advice they will not buy them and the market will die.
