I had an 86.5 with th sport package (cashmere sport seats, limited slip, springs??, shocks). It had Bilstiens and under 100K on the clock, so everything looked original. It was a very stiff jittery ride on a gravel road. On well paved twisty roads it was amazing. I miss that. However, even on good roads the stiff sporty ride was not really GT cruiser comfortable. I felt fatigued after riding in that 928 for a few hours. I'm hoping Bilstiens with regular S4 springs will be the sweet spot. I find 8 year old Boges with about 50K to be too soft.

Looking at Konis on Tire Rack right now. I know with the orange ones you have to collapse the strut and turn it to adjust. How many turns actually equate to medium? Are you running medium settings on all 4 corners?

1 1/2 turns would be medium. 3 full turns is lock to lock.
Seems like the car would ride strangely if the setting weren't the same

928s to best of my knowledge only ever used one spring rate for all US cars. There are different "tolerance groups" that were designated by color markings on the coils to match up from side to side, but the spring rate was nominally the same.
So, "Sport Suspension" only meant different shocks like the Red Boges.

A little off topic but regarding red shocks:I have red boge on my 92 GTS , but part # is 928 333 051 16 for rears(never checked PN on fronts)...are those shocks the real red boges or just "painted red" boges?(my car has not M474 option from factory).
never seen other 928 gts around here, so I cannot ckeck...

Is it the same on both sides?
Have you checked the fronts?

checked and fronts are 928.....07 , red.
rear 928 ......051 16 .red
all 4 are boge.
I think they are standard shocks just wondering if it is normal to have them red .(paint seems to be original).

Koni shock adjustment - I've put Koni shocks on several 928's and a few other German cars as well. I find that they do not all have the same number of turns from soft to firm. Thus, I ALWAYS check the number of turns for the model of shock I'm installing (as I recall, the 928 ones are different front vs rear). I prefer 1/3 of the way from soft to firm for street/highway driving, thus I can accurately achieve this by counting turns from full soft to full firm, then going back to full soft and performing 1/3 as much rotation.
Just my experience - YMMV!!!

Now I understand what the dots mean. I thought it was a sport spring vs. regular spring code. So maybe I don't want Bilsteins and stock springs as that appears to be what I had. Maybe new Boge or adjustable Konis. Bob V just put new Boge on his GT...hope to get a ride in his car at Camp 928 or Frenzy before buying shocks.

Project 928 book shows that a lot of testing occurred on 'gravel' roads.
I find that the 928 is a blast to drive on gravel roads with nice balance and controllability in the corners. I have been known to 'seek them out' when on long boring, otherwise tarmac, trips.

Dude, dirt road driving in a 928 is a lot of fun.
