Someone needs to 3d print tail lights!

One of my customers is a huge LED retailer and tried to have these done in LED. The cost for tooling and a minimum run of 100 was astronomical cost for the end user. Would have taken years to recoup that cost so we scrapped it.

Again I don't think the rear housing section has to be the same as oem if you are going to change to led or the look. Just the mounting tabs would have to be the same. I'm sure the wiring could be figured out by one of our resident electrical guys when it comes to using the oem harness to led lighting straps.

For LED's that are mounted to or sandwiched in the actual lens face, a double-layer laminate of red under clear acrylic would be relatively easy to cut and bend to match the exiting outer shape. It's the little details like diamond inner faces that gather and diffuse regular single-point "bulb" light that get to be fun. Would you be happy with rows of bright spots where the little SMD LED's contact the inner faces of the red, or would you still want a full lens cavity evenly lit as they are stock? Want white backup lights? Want amber sections for turn lights? Each little section gets assembled and attached to the clear outer lens.
If you want to vacuum-mold them in a silicone mold, you'll end up making an 'armature' or backbone to support the silicone. The silicone needs to be pretty even thickness so its own shrinkage doesn't affect the finished product too much. You could make the inner pieces and then glue them all together on a formed-sheet clear Lexan (or similar) outer skin. Once the molds are made for the various pieces, you could do them in any color you wanted. Except maybe blue.

We just purchased a pair of 928S4 / GT tail lamps brand new from Porsche ( Ex Germany ) via our local Porsche dealer 4 weeks ago, it made a massive difference to the 928GT in question ( appearance wise) , old ones faded & cracked etc , new ones are ( new ) and really brightens up the look of the car

I’ve seen brand new ones from Porsche as low as $420 for the pair. Pretty cheap. I would say it’s only worth it if there was a serious improvement in quality.

Anybody besides me hesitate to send $500 to Latvia? Or maybe I am just annoyed they won't ship to Hawaii. You know, Nigeria, Somalia, Hawaii.
