Talking 928 restoration

Hi,

I am in the process restoring a 928 that has been sat in the garage for about 15 years!

I'm having issues with the fuel pump, its not starting with the ignition, I have been told that, if I bypass the ignition fuse to the pump, it will work, has anyone tried this?? seems a bit dodgy to me?!

also, the seats, well the seats are shot, I am ummmming and arrrrhhhing about whether to refurbish/restore them, or whether its best to just buy some replacement ones? does anyone know an good places for replacement seats?

Any feedback or input would be great!

Thanks,
James

Also add your location in your signature. There will probably be someone close to you that has done what you are in the process of doing.

And pictures!!!!

Well, you can jump the fuel pump relay to check operation and test pressure and flow. Not dodgey at all, but you have to do it right.

I can't remember precisely, but later cars don't have the fuel pump fire up when the key is switched on. They use the crank sensor to "see" that the engine is turning, and that activates the fuel pump. Early cars have a special FP relay that gives a few seconds of pump operation to prime the system (Again, not sure on this, so I could be waaaay off base - someone will correct me if so).

Welcome. You've found the most knowledgeable and friendliest forum for these cars. Anything you need to know is here for the asking. Ask nicely, follow instructions, say "thank you" and let us know how it worked out and you will find what you are looking for.

And there's a bit of a tradition on here...

The pump priming ended in 1984 (US) and 1983 (ROW) with the introduction of the LH-Jetronic fuel injection.

You can use a normal 53 relay in the earlier cars, just note that the pump wont prime and you may need to crank the car longer to get it to start.

Do a search on what's needed before you start a 928 that's been sitting for a long time. T

Thanks a lot guys!

I'll get the camera out and get snapping this weekend.

Its more for my old man to do now that he's retired, he bought it years ago and hasn't done anything! (other than get it a respray)

I should real have got more info together for you to make it a tad easier than just '928' haha

Once again, thanks a lot, I'll have a look through the links that have been posted and let you know all the info about the car, year/model/etc.

...WORTHLESS...

Welcome! What is your level of automotive repar skill? The odds are that the gas has become rather sticky, but maybe you have already gotten that far. If you have a 928 with two pumps, the intake pump its not that hard to take it apart and clean it. Not sure what can be done with the exterior pumps. I have only just replaced those. Have fun! John
