Btw Joe, BC is right on for the very reason you cite towards the end of your thread. Best time to sell is spring. That's when the discretionary car money comes out of the closet. Also, Brendon knows a thing or two about BAT (search is your friend - look for a red 86 5 speed).

But I think there was a fair amount of luck involved in the price going as high as it did. If there hadn't been more than one person willing to pay that price at that time, it may well have gone for a lot lower.
Hoi's Weissach, Alex's "Nacthgrun" (or something like that), Jim Doerr's OB project car. All of those had auctions that hammered well below what many people on here thought they should go for (Alex's and Jim's both fell through).
Auctions are a great way to sell a car now. But I don't get the impression Bob wants to do that.
For Bob to get the most out of his car, I would think his best course of action would not be to put it up for auction (either on line or live), but to properly market it in the various "For Sale" avenues available, both on line and in print.
I'm going to guess he knows the proper ways and places to do this.
But hey, it's just my opinion. Others may have different ones and ultimately, it's not my (or yours or anyone but Bob's) car to sell.

In a way, I was hoping that my buyer wouldn't follow through too but the >$1600 fee paid is obviously a deterrant. BaT can bring a lot of potential (BC's and Stan's Samantha are 2 obvious examples, and we forget about the '80 silver euro that was sold there at >$21k when he offered it for the world to buy it at $14.5k for more than 1 month here on Rennlist), but it is a roll of dice if one wants to do it.
With what BaT "suggested" as my reserve (and I also know what the current Weissach's reserve is from the seller himself 2 weeks before the auction), they value miles more than anything else (hint, you'd be as amazed as I was when I feel they value our cars at the same level). Even though they had precedant with what a beautiful S4 manual had brought from the auction ($34k this summer for a black/black), they will offer no more than $30k as reserve in my opinion on Bob's car due to miles, aftermarket parts on it now.
We all agree that Bob's car is rare in color (didn't work for Alex), and top shelf in condition, but unless BaT agrees to a reserve that is comfortable for Bob, I would not try it there, even in the Spring.

The folks that know these cars intimately are right here on RL. If we all were immediately in the market for a 928, my search would begin right here amongst all of us on RL, which is why I began the drum roll here on the forum. I'm really pleased and surprised with the number of kind comments and interest my car has produced. Poor timing on my part only because we're vacationing this week and fully engaged every waking moment....
Getting my car to the right and caring household is important to me because the car is so personal to me. Re-elevating the condition of the car was not a labor, but a journey that took me back in time to when Deb's and my life make a decidedly great turn for the better.
I'd like a fair price on the car. Not looking to gouge anyone that is interested, but do not want to give it away, either.

I was told not to list her name on the site. I suspect it was because she still had the patterns for the cover in her possession?? We're back in town Tuesday, and I'll figure out a way to cryptically share the info with everyone. I'm telling you, the cover is 'dead-on' correct.

Go easy on me here because it's not 928 related, but while I've got everyone's attention, I hope that you don't mind me posting another site I created around my last 2 year's garage project: a 1976 Chevrolet Cosworth Vega. I always thought it would be fun to have one, and bought a barn find car in Cinci that hadn't run in 33 years because the owner parked it and put a cover over it...I guess a grenaded motor and gearbox will make you do that. Anyway, some fun reading and photos for your reading/viewing pleasure. I'm asking for $12k for the car, and Deb will scream that I've spent a lot more on it than that...hopefully she doesn't see this post!

Bob, very nice..always liked these and think they had a undeserved reputation. Can't imagine how much went into that car. This is another one you are selling just before they take off, you know that, right? What a great pair of cars. GLWTS. Wish I had the liquid capital at the moment.

1) first use of Alusil alloy cylinder block (which does not use steel liners, but allows alloy pistons to ride in an alloy block). Technology perfected by Porsche in the 928.

My S4/5-speed has found a new home this past Saturday. Turns-out that the buyer was local to me, yet found it via Rennlist when alerted to the car by a bud who happens to have a GTS. A really terrific guy, too, so it goes to a very good home.
I had a lot of interest in the car, including across the pond, and I thank everyone for their patience with me. It was difficult to sell this car, but they deserve to be driven and used, and as I always do, the car became so nice that I couldn't bring myself to drive it.
The buyer's GTS friend saw the car today, and proclaimed it to be one of the nicest and most detailed he's ever seen. That makes me feel really good as often you get too close to a project to actually see it for what it is.
It did not quite eclipse Stan's sale on BAT, but it was whisker close.
