How many miles on 142? Mine turned over 52K this summer and I think she's now going to be more of a garage queen from now on. Will also be doubling my agreed value coverage next week.
Yes mine is that car. Owned by Dennis, who was our 928 den mother here in Detroit. His wife kept his boots but she gave me the luggage.

Dennis took great care of this car. Has the Euro cams and MSDS headers, too. It had been stored for over a year when I took off the cover, connected the battery and drove 1200 miles round trip to Frenzy this year. AC even worked. Love #142!!

That's awesome. I hope to see that car one of these days...and I think you're less than 300 miles from me.

I wonder if there's enough Weissachs left to have a Weissach meet and greet?

I do like the trend for my #142, though. Not sure my (Dennis's) car is as clean as Hoi's (definitely not as original), but I think it's close.

Congrats, Hoi!
I remember Dennis's car at Sharks in Hell 2012. The matching cowboy boots I'll always remember.

Great price for a '82 928, but this Weissach should have deserved more.

Congrats, on the sale...yes...wish it would have been more for you. But, maybe like others have said...time of year?

One beautiful car, for sure.

For those of us not yet that familiar with BaT's policies, how do they 'force the issue' on a reserve number? It's not like they have a bunch of sales history on 5-speed Weissach Editions to reference for market.

They gave a pretty low balled reserve. When I pointed out how rare and special this car was within the Porsche 928 universe, they basically said, "take it or leave it". I guess the $250 fee to write the ad wasn't enough (of course) but I was stunned how little wriggle room I had with their "suggested" reserve. They know they have a popular website for especially 928 now.

Even after i pointed out the originality and the level of preservation with the car and the luggage and what I had spent to make it update to date, they only increase reserve by $500.

I learn something everyday with my interaction with bat. I probably will never deal with them again.

We've seen a couple of these cars go to the proverbial moon on BAT (MMerlin's Euro a month or two ago), and then something like this sale happens. Definitely has to do with who is clicking on those daily updates. This time of year it's tough to find the time, whereas in the spring I look forward to opening that email each morning and being tempted. I would say that Porsche values, almost without exception, appear to be based on rarity either in number produced, or number remaining. The 964 is a good example of the latter, with not all that many produced, but so many destroyed/parted/converted into other cars. Couldn't give one away in 2004, and now a clean one is easily worth what it cost new ($60K on up). Maybe the A/C ends up broken on that Weissach and the sale falls through

But that's the thing. They made as many 964s as the entire run of 928s, 62,000 or so, and you don't see typical 928s getting their MSRP for a selling price. Limited doesn't always equal high valuation.

Not to sound like the naysayers, but while the Weissachs are super rare, to lots of people they're still an '82 928.

I wish but the buyer really wants the car. I know, because he began to make all kinds of ridiculous demands after the fact (bubble wrapping each luggage then placing each one into a card board box, then air mailing them internationally to Germany, $$$) but I resisted (increasing more hands on those luggages likely will increase chances of damaging those perfect garments). He relented. A large part of me was wishing he would just give up and cancel the transaction.

The money is still not in the bank yet, but should be in soon. Car is going to Germany!

So BaT won't let you pick your reserve? That's crazy. I had no idea...

Sorry Hoi, your 928 is beautiful however, this unfortunately is becoming more and more the experience people are having with BAT. Their site is extremely popular right now with sellers not only having to endure the slings and arrows from the peanut gallery who for the most part are NOT BUYERS but, the seller must agree to their "suggested" low reserve prices. It makes sense that a lower reserve is in their best interest since they only collect $250 from the seller but, 5% from the buyer....

Go to any live classic car auction and you too end up negotiating the reserve figure or as bidding slows are "encouraged" to drop the reserve. Or go to B J Scottsdale and there is no reserve allowed. But as pointed out the 5% buy fee on BAT makes it clear what is in BAT's best interests........just business.

There have been a couple of outliers price wise in both directions on BAT. For the most part BAT has been very positive for the 928 community on the whole.
