The one I bought for an old PC case was encased in acrylic. Not fragile at all. I suspect the new ones are similarly made. Not sure if they get brighter with voltage for the brake light effect Randy is looking for though.

I can look into getting a test piece to experiment on if you think you can come up with a viable solution for the community.
Let me know.
That's pretty awesome, but the applied material looks like a grey primer when unlit, so won't work for a day and night application as needed here.

what about that electroluminescent paint? seems like you could spray/roll some on and voila'

I think such a switch should mimic the individual light switches function - central position: lights work individually as normal, one way: override to all lights off, other way: override to all lights on.
It is just as useful to be able to turn all lights off regardless of the doors/hatch - e.g. working on the car, cleaning the car, displaying the car.

There have been many times when I have thought that a stealth pneumatic "Mud Cannon" would be a very useful additional feature - It's a bit James Bond admittedly - but I do think it would be very satisfying (especially on those rare occasions where the jerk in question is driving a convertible).
I also quite fancy a button on the dash that will get you rear brake lights without any brake pedal - great for those annoyingly too close tailgaters - 'hit the brakes' and accelerate away at the same time.

I remember C&D doing a 'road test' of a Cadillac Seville that had a hinged rear licence plate hiding an aircraft landing light that the driver could flip on to send a message to tailgaters. They ran it on Mrs. Orcutt's driveway, IIRC. Good old days, today it'd probably get you arrested for endangerment....
