4 valve stroker. Keep in mind that the supposed monster motor in this car was GONE, not a trace of it. No exhaust, no headers, no plumbing.....GONE. I am not sure when this motor was removed or what became of it.

For my goals it was easier to create a competitive power level with the 4 valve engine and most of the aftermarket products out there are for 4 valvers. The 4 valve 928 engine has some serious power limitations, especially when you're talking about how big of cams you can put in it because of the head design.

I am not surprised Bob was making big power with the 8 valve engine at all. As I said my Camaro LS3 (different architecture obviously) is one step removed from a tractor engine and makes huge power almost effortlessly because its big and dumb and has few moving parts, in some ways kind of like 8 valve 928 motors.

Whoops hit post too quick....

...when I say competitive, I mean against a similarly classed GT1 911 based car. The 3.8s and even 4.0 engines in those cars can easily make 400+ horsepower, and they are usually much lighter than even a stripped down 928. An RSR is a hard car to beat with a 928, but I want to try, because I believe in the 928 and always have.

Great thread. Keep up the good work! What is your racing background and where do you think you will ultimately end up racing the car? Lots of history in this car. Good luck with the restoration.

Joe,

My racing background is jack squat. I have been PCA auto crossing for 20 years and have done the Porsche Advanced Driving School which was on a track but other than that, no track experience. I am hoping to race this in POC eventually once I get past all the training they give you before they let you go wheel to wheel.

I am no stranger to driving ridiculously fast cars.....ridiculously fast though !

If you take a peek at what Mark Anderson did with his 928 against entire fields of Cup Cars (and all orher 911s) at both POC and PCA events, you will begin to understand what V8 torque can do against 911 horsepower. While they were rowing through gears trying to keep their engines making horsepower, he drove past.....filling the large "splits" of the 928 transmission with torque.

Awesome thread! Awesome save! Keep us posted on the progress.

I too rescued a 928 track car a few years back and am having a ball with it, so I'm sure you will too. My biggest complaint so far is lack of power with my stock motor. Modern Caymans and Boxsters go whizzing by. I'm going to pull much more weight out of it this winter, but I fear I will have to go to bigger power one of these days.

Default Name That Car

So after reading some threads, I found out my race car was the only one that didn't have a name, and all the kids at school were picking on me.

I don't normally name my cars, but then I heard about the "White Zombie" and a few other ones, and frankly, "The Devore Car" is getting a little old, since not many cars are named after a dead guy. Usually.

So I thought of the car's attributes:

- Stocky
- Ultra Wide
- Originally petrolblau metallic, but the respray by some PO came out green
- Intimidating, in a kind of **** way

Then it hit me, and the old girl now has a name that matches her personality and evokes a little chuckle. Meet "The Tank"
