I just got a set of H4 and 1 lamp is missing the same black triangle parts with retaining circle that Gregg K does also. Anyone know where to get a set of this? Does the big three stock this stuff?

Also this lamp has 4 male connectors and my old one has 3 so what is the solution to this.

Thanks in advance.

Just received my set of 8" H4s I bought off of ebay. Went through this whole trying to find those black peices. Not easy to find. I eventually found some at DC Automotive. Really helpful guy and he went out of his way to not sell me the whole bracket but only the 2 peices I needed. Try giving them a call.

As for the 3/4 prong thing, your 3 prong receptacle will only fit on one way. There is a bit of plastic that bridges between the bottom 2 receivers that gets in the way of one of the prongs on the headlight. I dremelled off that little peice and attached the headlight. I have one lonely prong but my headlights work great!!

Thanks for the help.

I managed to get 1 headlight installed to test it. The light is very difussed, where the old light that came in the shark has a shark focused beam on the ground. The new one isn't as bright as I would like. I'll go back to searching the archive for answers.

I'll give DC automovtive a try among many others.

UFO,

Are you saying that the 8" headlights don't have the sharp cutoff on low beam? sounds like maybe this upgrade is a cosmetic + and a functional -. I was thinking of going to 8" H4's, but if I'm going to end up with blobs on the road instead of the nice cutoff I get with the 7" euros then I think I'll just skip it.

SharkSkin & UFO

I should get around to installing my 8" euros today but I have a question for you both. Do you guys have a metal shield directly in front of the bulb?? It's a disk that is a non-reflective metal. One of mine has it and the other doesn't. This would seem to block the light and diffuse it as UFO has noted. Sharkskin do the 7" have this block in front of the bulb??

My 7" Euros have that metal cup... the Hellas on my Z have it.... my Cibies that I had on my 510 and R/T had it.... It's there not to diffuse the light(well, not exactly), but to prevent blinding people. The low beam element actually shines upwards toward the top half of the reflector. So without this metal cup, other drivers would be blinded by the intense point-source light from the filament. It would be even worse on high beam. If one side is missing that piece, it may have corroded or vibrated off and was subsequently removed from the housing.

Personally, I would not use the one without that cup, mainly because it can be a hazard for oncoming drivers(who might get blinded and confused, running into you ). Also, it will look funny, with one bulb appearing much brighter than the other in the center. A lot of random light will be coming from that side, lighting up the undersides of trees, etc.

I'm still curious about the beam pattern though, so if you do get around to installing the good one, I'd like to hear your impressions.

D

[Edit]I've done quite a bit of searching and can't find a definitive answer as to what the light pattern is with 8" lights, for example those sold by the Big 3. I guess I'll make some phone calls tomorrow and hope someone is open... [/Edit]

Ok,

I got mine installed now. I had to make my own clips out of aluminum to mount 1 head lamp. My set I bought used don't match exactly right.

1 headlight shoots out a diffused haze of light that I reported earlier. It don't light up the road much from the driver angle. But from looking at it from a distance it look OK.

The other headlight throws out so much light a I notice at 300+ yards it lights up everything. You could use it on a police helicopter search beam its so bright. I must need new bulbs to balance this out. My girlfriend hates the H4 and thinks the old school crome stove rings look better.

Reguardless these H4 are powerful when done right. Just 1 bulb alone is better than 2 on most cars. I need to aim them and perhaps research on new bulbs to buy and from where.

As for the retaining clips that are impossible to buy. I'm machining a few more for friends. If you might need them to mount your H4 if they came without the clips PM me for obtaining a temp one until you find OEM crap.

I purchased a set of Bosch 8" H4's from Zims (www.allzim.com) on sale for $179.95 a piece w/o bulbs a while back. You have to watch the ads. They do pop up on sale occasionally. By the way, "suggested list" was $225.15 each.
