BF Goodrich Rears 245/50/16
Want to change out the tires on S4 wheels I recently bought from Gary, and I want to know if I can get away with 245/50/16 instead of 245/45/16 for the 8" wide rear wheels? The BFGOODRICH G-FORCE COMP-2 A/S 245/50ZR16 only comes in aspect ratio of 50 instead of 45 in 16" wheel sizes.
Would they make the tire look too "thick"?
thanks-Hoi

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder- down to you on that one!
You would be running with a diameter of something like 25.7 inches as opposed to 25 inches so your speedo will change slightly - probably be more accurate I suspect.
I have just done something similar on my 18 inch wheels in that I have gone from 285x30x18 to a 285x35 section. No adversee effects detected, no mysterious malfunction of the ABS, indeed nothing of note. Just have to remember I do not have the margins I had previously at the fixed radars!
I suspect the 245x45 section was an attempt to "balance" with the front rolling diameter unless there is something else I am not aware of. Thus I suspect if you like them there will be no harm done. A bit more comfortable ride offset by a bit more "slop" in the cornering precision.

I edited my post after seeing you are on old 16" wheels.
Unless you are totally OCD about keeping the car super stock, do yourself a favour and invest in a set of 18" wheels. You open up a huge selection of tire sizes and way lower prices.

They do a 255x50- the diameter is not that much greater at 26.1 inches.
There has to be a limit as to how much extra diamter you can run- not sure what that limit is but if you could find a 275 I do believe it would be too wide for your rim that would need to be 9 inches wide minimum I suspect.

Tire rack (just recently) has the correct 245-45s in Bridgestone Potenza RE11 in stock. Excellent dry weather performing tire.

I have BFGoodrich G-Force Sport Comp-2 on my 80, tested first on my 79.
Wheels are 8.5" and 9" phone dials (not stock).
Black car: 255/40-16 front and back (with the staggered wheels).
Red car: 245/50-16 & 255/50-16
Your rear wheels would look similar to the front wheels on the red car.

Funny, I had the same question when I decided to buy 245/45/17s for my rear. The overall diameter is the same and you will not notice the difference in height with 245/50/17s.

If you settle on the BFGs in 245/50-16, I have two that I ordered in May to replace two dry rotted tires but I ended up getting new Carrera III wheels and tires. Tires were never mounted, still 'packaged', and kept in the dark. Willing to meet somewhere, I will take 150 for them.

Went ahead and purchased a set, 225/50 and 245/50. The smaller wheel with great aspect ratio do provide for a softer ride and do not compromise any handling. I am happy with them.

Three Wheelin'
On another car, which came with 245/50/16 tires, I went with 245/45/16 tires, and the car seems to "move" quicker, but the speedo was slightly off. The tires were shorter in the sidewall, too. Looks good. That's my experience.
