Removal of Central Shaft for Headlights
Hey all,
Happy Thanksgiving to those of you in the US. I hope your bellies are full and that you are in a mild turkey coma.
I'm working to remove the central bar that connects the two front headlights and connects to the headlight motor, and am following the guide here.
I've removed the four bolts that are referenced in the guide (P/N 19), but I'm not getting enough movement in the individual headlamps to get the the central shaft out (Step 3).
Am I missing something or possibly removed the wrong 4 bolts? Do I need to use more force on the headlamps?

remove the #15 bolts
remove the headlight cover so it wont get scratched, put a towel under the lamp,
the lamp will fall but this will allow you the room to move the bar

I don't know of any way to do it without completely removing the headlights. There are four 10mm bolts securing each of them. Two 10mm bolts in the apron that you'll have to get with a long extension. They are just in front of the front bumper cover and we'll hidden along the inside of the aprons if you're looking from inside the engine bay. The other pair of nuts and bolts is on the center bar itself. They are easily accessible. You may need to counter hold the nuts with a wrench to remove the hardware. You have to do this for both sides.

I removed the #19 bolts and the #30 guide, the removed the headlight raising arm connection to the motor.
I then used a screw driver inside of the bolt holes where the #19 ones were to force the bar out. You can then use the same method to reinstall the bar in the reverse order.
It's worked all the times I have done this before.

I went with MM's option and had the thing off in ~5 mins. Easy peasy.
Kiln - I'll likely be taking them out at some point, and I found the long extension was absolutely necessary in going through Stan's suggestion.
Blake - what you proposed is what I originally tried. But...I found that the shaft kept hitting the body and wouldn't come out. Might have been just a matter of the corrosion & compression on the bar to the headlight shafts, so will try that next time once I've got things cleaned up.

Getting the headlights realigned may take a few tries. There is quite a bit of adjustment at the #15 hardware. Getting them to sit in the right spot within the fenders can be tricky. Manually retract the headlights until you know you have them where you want or else you might scratch the painted headlight hoods.
