The saga of the fuel pump & eurocarparts continues!
If you have been following the thread you wil know the problems I've had getting the right fuel pump for my car.

First attempt resulted in a pump being delivered for an S4 which the experts on here kindly told me wasn't suitable & I was recommended to go to Eurocarparts so I did.

Using their registration number lookup told me to order a specific part which upon receipt turned out to be Bosch part number 0 580 254 053 not the same part number as quoted to me on here (0 580 464 017) so I contact them and say that's not what I'm looking for and they tell me, after a bit of "cross referencing" to order a different part which would be the correct Bosch pump I quoted to them above.
Go to the store today to collect it and, its wrong again this time they supply 0 580 464 069!!

I query it in the store and they go back behind the counter emerging 10 full minutes later and tell me its right!?! They tell me the 017 is a specific vehicle pump and the 069 is Bosch's "universal replacement for that part number.

Slightly unconvinced I come home and start googling and woohoo I find a Bosch PDF with various Bosch fuel pump numbers & specs etc (from industrial bearings Australia ) and I find the "universal" pump they have supplied listed as suitable for Porsche, but for 911, 924, 944 & 968!! Not a 928 which the PDF shows as being either 0 580 464 045 or 0 580 464 057 no 017 listed!?!?

Now I'm pulling out what little hair I have and rapidly losing the will to live!!

I know from Mark & Roger the correct part number, 0 580 464 017 but can anyone tell me (please!!!) if any of the others I've been given are universal replacements suitable for a Euro spec 928S2?

They were: 0 580 254 053 and 0 580 464 069

There is nothing I can really do until Monday now but I would love to be able to go back with the right info if I can

Thanks again in advance

Stewart - I sell the correct pump for car for $218.
About $45 to ship it DHL plus you may have to pay the government a few $ as well.
How much are they charging you for the wrong pump?

Hi Roger,

Depending on which version of the wrong pump we speak about its ranging from £90-£130 GBP
I would likely have fared much better ordering from you and paying the import tax & vat (which they charge on shipping too!)
But the issue is that it's due at the body shop next weekend for a major overhaul & respray, thought I had plenty of time with having 2 weeks notice. Now a week has gone by and I'm no further forward, time is precious as I have limited time (and daylight) left to get and fit the new pump

Haven't been quite this frustrated in a long time, I'm seriously thinking of just fitting the original pump they supplied ( 053) if they still have it on Monday and being done with it at least until it comes back in spring. The only worry is I forget then to put the right one on. The 053 seems to show a 5bar pump flowing 175litres so should (I think) work, even temporary

If I ship it on Monday you would have it on Wednesday.

I agree the 053 will be fine short term and may prove OK long term.

My Bosch efi application chart shows pumps for 6/77 - 7/82 as
0 580 254 984 > 6/80
0 580 254 053 7/80 > 7/83
After that the pumps are 580.464... series
In looking up pump series I believe the 580.254 were CIS pumps, and 580.464 were EFI, electronically controlled systems. My car is a Euro CIS, and it came with a 580.464 pump on it, in Saudi Arabia (without an in-tank pump). This pump produced spec 75 psi system pressure, and spec flow rate. Apart from getting jammed on a foreign body once (which it recovered from by reversing polarity) it did around 8 years service, before I refrurbed the the tank, pump and some lines.
If you can get a 580.254.053 It should do the job fine.

Thanks jpitman2 & Roger, I know they have the 053 pump on the shelf, I handed it back to them yesterday so that seems to be a quick & easy solution for the time being.
Roger, the car is going in for a full body restoration and bare metal respray & the list of parts I'm ordering from you is presently well in the four figures range, I think I'll just add the right pump to the list & get it it all at the same time - Mr Visacard, brace yourself.....

Dealing with Roger tends to have that effect (getting it right the first time). On those fairly rare occasions when it doesn't, Roger is very willing to make it right.

And look on the bright side. If you have reward points on your card, you will be earning a lot of them.

Hi all

Just an update to all that have been viewing this thread. I received a response from Bosch UK earlier today and after supplying all the vehicle details they have advised the only pump they recommend fitting to the car is an 0 580 464 045

I've asked them to confirm that as far as they are concerned the 017 pump is not recommended and will let you know when they respond, likely tomorrow.

Kind regards
Stewart

Well all I can say is that they are totally wrong. 928 608 104 01 is Bosch part number 0580 464 017 for all S2 16v cars and always has been as long as I have been in business.
0580 464 045 was only used on 87 to 88 cars prior to the reuse of the in-tank pump.
045 will work but is not the exact pump that you require.

Hi Roger, thanks for the reply, I believe you 100℅ I do, to me you are most definitely the expert here.
I contacted Bosch to show eurocarparts the pump they supplied and claimed to be an equivalent was not infact comparable as they had said.
I was somewhat surprised to receive the response I did particularly in light of your response. Happy to forward the email chain to you for info.
It does go to show the quality of information being banded about this side of the pond though - its no wonder that we can't get the right parts!?!?
It beggars belief really it does

I understand - use the 045 and be done as I am sure it will work fine.
