Default "Mokka" 79 OB

Quotes from "928's for Sale" thread:

Alex: Very Nice 13k mile Mocha '79 5 speed on ebay...Looks to be VERY nice, all the little bits intact (other than correct air compressor)...for once I believe the miles...

Ed: What an exceptional looking car. Will follow to see what it goes for. Those miles look honest.

Andrew: This is near me I HAVE to go look. Loving that groovy hand painted pinstripe execution.

Alex: I expect full detailed report....pinstripe is doing it for me too. Hoi hates it...

Jarrod: Not crazy about the pinstripe, but it looks like an exceptional car! Do want.

Stan: I like the stripes

Hoi: Nice, but at $33k, I would rather purchase that Nocha Brown-cork combo. Easier to tolerate the pinstripes than the green machine.

Chuck: I asked the seller if the stripes were painted on or are they tape (much easier to remove...) but, he never responded.

Quote-Andrew: I got to see this one in person today and take it for a drive...This car is exceptional. Jay the owner is a nice straightforward guy, bought the car from the original owner, they've know each other for years and remain in contact. The car was bought new in Hartford CT and remains within a 20 minute drive from it's selling dealership. The car is complete except for one spare belt, lug wrench, air compressor, and first aid kit. Everything else is there, tools, bulbs, spark plugs, gloves, books, window sticker, all keys (even the small ones) etc. The condition of everything is just right for the age and miles. The car looks to have been stored properly its whole life, no salt, winter, etc. The paint is very nice and has 3 or 4 really minor dings and chips here and there. The engine compartment is very much correct and original except for the four radiator hose clamps. very clean...but not in a just pressure washed kind of way. Original cad plating is about 80% which i think is outstanding. Undercarriage has had additional undercoating from the dealer (its on the sales contract) so there's some black sh*t sprayed around in addition to the cosmoline...appears "correct" to the sales contract.. theres some wetness right in the middle around the rack..could be oil or PS. otherwise quite nice under there and again not in a "just pressure washed" way. Undercarriage cad plating pretty good and probably like new under that cosmoline. Rust holes in the rear muffler, and you hear them. Car has LSD diff as indicated on the window sticker. The car runs and drives very well, syncros work excellent. Interior is 95%. very slight pull of dash leather from passenger defrost vent...like a few mm. driver seat has a little wear, carpets excellent, steering wheel is very good just a few fuzzy stitches. the interior SMELLS RIGHT. This is pretty much impossible to reproduce once its been removed, wet, cooked, sweated in, or otherwise messed with. Radio and aerial are correct and works although not so good at holding stations. (I consider this a bamberg victory) Theres some records, the majority of it a $4K service done in 1994 at around 10K miles. waterpump, belts, etc. To the delight of some those stripes are TAPE but i think i saw them on the sales contract so think twice before removing. This is one to get folks...these are few and far between. A few weeks of detailing and you'll be star of the preservation class. I love it but I already own too many of these.
Disclaimer: I looked at the car for about an hour, no lift. I drove it for about 5 miles...these are my impressions based on my experiences with these cars. This is NOT your pre-purchase inspection!!!
(This could have been the final clincher to bid away !! T)

Erik: It would be interesting to follow up with the seller, see if the deal actually goes through.

Ed: The winner here would be a fool not to go through with the sale. That car sold for less than it will a year or 2 from now, even if he puts a few more miles on it.

Jim: Well bought, T!

GT6ixer: Congrats Tony! You started this sticky and in less than 900 posts you got yourself killer OB!

Sister was shuttling me to Bradley airport early am last week when I recieved a text/eBay link from Alex regarding this OB I really wasn't looking for another 928 (I'll explain later) Got back to TX and had a better look on the laptop. The usual suspects started chiming in with there thoughts on this little gem. Andrew took a ride to have a look and reported back. Great review and thankful to have experienced eyes on her. This low mileage OB will be delivered to our 2nd home in CT and used sparingly spring - fall. I promise not to modify this OB in any way shape or form-ok maybe a short shifter and some rear wheel spacers Stay tuned. T

Bottom feeder says; You done well. Congrats and I would leave the period correct(if not factory) pinstripes alone. Yes, it does give it that Chevette Sport look, but hey - it was the 70s man. KInda surprised it doesn't have the silver quarter window trim, but black looks good too.

It has a hot post cover, the '79's came with the small plastic cover. It's in place on the post.

Crazy nice car T....Enjoy.

I believe the black is factory. The Silver 'fading' is what happens from sun exposure. This car hasn't seen much of that.

Appreciate the compliments and will pass them on when we finally meet
Lots of comments regarding the dealer installed vinyl pin stripes-again from the 928s for Sale thread:

This is near me I HAVE to go look. Loving that groovy hand painted pinstripe execution.

I expect full detailed report....pinstripe is doing it for me too. Hoi hates it...

I like the stripes.

Nice, but at $33k, I would rather purchase that Nocha Brown-cork combo. Easier to tolerate the pinstripes than the green machine.

Nice looking car (minus the stripes).

I asked the seller if the stripes were painted on or are they tape (much easier to remove...) but, he never responded. Like the car too sans stripes.

Agreed. Even if those were dealer installed on all original paint, no way I would remove them.

Plus, they are so groovy!

Congratulations Tony! Love the color. Still don't like the pinstripe, but the whole rest of the car makes up for it. Well done

I love the stripes on it - they work; same with Alex's chiffon white. Some cars wear them well, and this is surely one of them.

Love this car WITH THE PINSTRIPES REMAINING!

To get the true effect, Tony, you will have to pull out the '70's stuff out of your closet (you KNOW you still have it)...and arrive in style......

So Tony, if you do leave the car in CT, I'd be glad to come down from Mass and give it an occasional exercise for you

Congrats again!

Congrats Tony (and good back story too!) I think you did well. I love the stripes on it - they work; same with Alex's chiffon white. Some cars wear them well, and this is surely one of them.
One big comment (for what it's worth) NO SHORT SHIFTER! Not in an early car - they need that long stick. Not only is it natural for the times, but look at the actual distance in hand travel from the wheel to the **** - About the same as the modern Carrera GT! Porsche with its race bred history knew what it was doing.
Great grab, and I really hope to have a couple of pictures with it next to Blumaxx next April at Hershey! And one of Alex's gems too, and hopefully Andrew - wouldn't it be cool to get some nice OB's together for a group shot?
