If I am posting 928 FS, I wouldn't want it in the thread bc it gets discussed (if anyone even comments on it) and it's on to the next.
As someone who checks it almost everyday, I find it easy enough to follow. But I agree with your point on people commenting on cars without reference.

As far as posting your own car there, I don't think Tony ever intended it to be the place for that. I think it is best for bringing to light interesting cars for sale that might otherwise miss your radar. The Vehicle Marketplance used to have a way to allow you to sort by 928, but they for some reason removed the 928 from the Porsche model list. Now if you post a car for sale you have to list the model as "blank". This goes for 924s, 944s and 914s. Not sure why they're not listed.

The 928 FS thread isn't preventing anyone from starting a new thread on their own car or even a random car for sale they want a Q&A on. It's just a catch-all for all the random sale cars people post about.
A new thread on every random Cragslist or Ebay 928 is a lot of clutter, especially when those links will expire.

For those not here often, a 928's for sale are likely to be spread over some pages. If there is a better way to do this, lets do it T

That's true I'm sure. However, a little easier to search and then look at individual threads as opposed to hunting through the multiple pages where there might be 4 or 5 928s being discussed at the same time is very confusing unless you spend a lot of time here. Just making an observation that's all. I'm not involved in the community enough any longer so I don't really have any skin in the game or a better way.

Maybe I missed that part because its really not clear and I have seen members post their cars in the thread instead of starting their own.

I agree about posting eBay cars since it's probably the first place anyone who is looking for a 928 goes.

Just another random thought.... I wonder how many individual FS 928s in total are there in the 750+ posts to the thread?

Ok so apparently I need to have my head checked because I decided to count. I came up with about 240 give or take.

Assuming your count is even close (and I'm going to assume it is) that was the point of that thread. 240+ additional threads just for random 928's for sale in the past 6 months? No thanks...

That's 1.6 new threads every day......this isn't craigslist, it's a tech forum.

As I said in the beginning of the for sale thread, the best solution would be a for sale sub-forum to post such finds, IB refuses and I have yet to figure out how to do it on my own.

Members are free to post wherever they want. Hell, post your 928 for sale in the 356 forum, one of them could be looking for one. No wait, we have a mod there now, he might move it to the Cayenne forum.....he's a bit off....all the V8 ones look the same to him.

No worries Chuck, I agree with your point of view, just trying to find a happy medium. As the popularity and interest in 928's keeps going up (along with values) more and more such posts are inevitable.

Not quite sure how a post about a 924 for sale mislabeled as a 928 drifted into a critique of the 'for sale' sticky, but here's my $0.02:

I like the sticky. It's perfect for the generic "found this on C/L" cars. It seems to have reduced the clutter some. It's a nice way for people who are looking (to buy or to sell) to have a place to see what the market looks like. Extraordinary cars (good or bad) can still get their own threads.

It would be nice if there were a couple of protocols for the thread, though:
Put basic info about the car in the thread - year, overall condition, trans type, location, that sort of thing. Not just a blind link.
Comments about the car should be specific, not just "nice car."
Comments about the car should quote the original post about the car so it's clear which car is being commented on.

The problem is nobody will ever re-find those 250 something cars in there, if people only post links that expire. Or maybe that's ok?

Dedicated threads should be identifiable cars, VIN or at least pictures that are permanently uploaded. The non-permanent noise belongs maybe in the the general for-sale thread?

Yes, the thread took all of three minuets to go sideways, for some reason.

I will post the next one as "dumb *** trying to sell wrong car"...then nobody will be oppressed by any excessive clutter
