what gives - rear brakes
Even the simplist jobs are a challenge - changing my rear pads and rotors, and there is no clearance!
85 MY; S brakes. The space in the caliper is 1 cm. The thickness of the rotor is almost double that. What am I doing wrong? This should be plug and play.

after I made this post went back into the garage and looked at the other side, and saw the issue. Needed to contract the carrier too (I had only contracted the piston, not realizing that the whole carrier also slides back).
Even the simplist things

trouble is, I do these jobs once every 7 years or so, then promptly forget.

Ed,
There's usually a protocol to this that includes disassembly, then clean and lubricate the caliper slides so the frame opens and closes easily. I haven't done yours so can't say for sure that this applies to them.
