Default 928 full engine gasket kits

Question for you all... I'm pricing a gasket kit for a 4.7 litre 16v engine and there seem to be a wide variation in prices.

Most places seem to be advertising Reinz - WD Express kits however the prices can vary from around $300 USD to over $500USD depending on advertiser.

What gives ? Surely they are all the same kit from the same manufacturer (these Reinz people?).

I'm currently looking at a full gasket set advertised to suit my engine, for $334 USD from a place in Glendale, California.

Does that sound about right to you guys ? Is that a good buy ?

Thanks !

Give Roger at 928'sRus a call ... you'll get the right gaskets at the right price.

Thank you kindly Dave, willdo.

Still wondering why the big difference though ?

A $250 USD difference is significant once converted to AUD.

Local Porsche dealer here quoted $1100 AUD for the same kit. They must be sniffing glue again.

Thanks Dave ----

Hi Justin,
What you are looking at is the difference between a OEM (original Equipment Manufacturer) Victor Reinz set and the same set via Porsche.
Always cheaper to buy from the people who make the set rather from Porsche who mark it up considerably because it is in a Porsche box. The Porsche price is more like $500/$600.
Porsche changed the part number recently to 928 100 901 04 and current list Price is $777. So yes prices are all over the place.

$334 is a great price for the kit if it is 928 100 901 01 - just make sure they have it in stock. Just because it is on a web site does not mean it is in stock.

My current price is $365 because I just bought 10 sets. The price is normally about $380/$400.

Buy from a known source like 928 Intl or 928 Specialists or myself. That way you know that what you are getting is correct for your car. Maybe a few more $ than some cut price internet unknown company but worth the extra insurance. You are also supporting the companies that help keep our cars on the road.

Justin,
It really is worth buying from Roger or one of the other vendors "here".
For instance, when I bought my full 4.7 gasket kit from Roger a few months back, it did not
contain the hydraulic lifter gaskets for some reason.
Roger fixed it immediately and made it "right", no drama.
Hope this helps.

Roger, I'll take one of those kits of yours.

Always happy to support the chaps !

I'm not going to quibble over a $30 differential

I'll email Roger directly.

Thank you kindly !

you will also need the tensioner gasket, as its not included in the kit,
and if your doing the cam towers then get Greg Browns updated gaskets,
and also swap out the oil pan gasket and the rear cam tower gaskets for the silicone versions.
Guess what Roger sells all of these as well

You don't list the year and model of your car. You may not need a tensioner gasket. Or not need the lifter gaskets, but those should be in there. There's a parts list for the kit in the PET and the manufacturer (Reinz) follows that. You'll have parts left over. The kit for a 4.7L is P/N 928 100 901 01

There's really only the one kit available but it comes in different packaging. I use the kits "straight up" without aftermarket cam tower gaskets and pan gaskets. Not advising, just saying. Long discussions are available on those.

Correct in theory but not in practice. We have to check both the Porsche kits and the OEM Reinz kits to ensure they are complete - and even then we miss a part now and again. Very time consuming. Plus when you open the kit to check you can't send it back or claim parts are missing - we do because we have a certain amount of "clout" with the wholesalers.

Justin has a 1980

every complete engine gasket kit I have bought has needed the tensioner gasket regardless who sold it,
I also order the tensioner gasket from Roger as well as the GB tower gaskets and the silicone cam tower and pan gaskets

It's a bit complex, isn't it ?

Bear in mind though the AUS delivered 1980's were different to the USA version ones I think ?

The 1980 AUS 928S had the 4.7 litre. I think the equivalent US models were still 4.5 litre ?

If you've given Roger your VIN number he'll make sure you get the right gaskets. That's the great thing about dealing with the vendors on here, they know what you need and do all the checking for you. What Mr Merlin said about the gaskets is spot on, and are the ones I used. Where in Aus are you Justin?
