928 values.
I just looked up my car's value on both nada.com, and kbb.com
I'm up about 800 for nada.com, and about 500 for kbb.com for the value of my car since I bought it, not inclueing the repairs I've made.
Hum, intersting. That beats inflation doesn't it?
Most intersting!

The magnitude and statistical significance of any Pearson correlation (r)between the valuations offered by kbb (or nada) and the actual selling price is most assuredly spurious. Additionally, such valuations are set-up to benefit the dealer, bank, or any other 3rd party, NOT the private party(ies) involved in the sale.
So, how's that for opening a can of worms?

I know that this thread is getting old...but I keep a running tab on eBay sales for cars that I'm keeping my eyes on...hoping for "just the right one for me" (so I can have another fun car!). I notice that time and again the same cars are listed as not being sold ("didn't meet reserve"). Apparently this is a function of people like me who paid a relatively lot to buy their 928...then paid a crapload extra to replace belts, hoses, fix leaks, fix cruise, buy another brain, etc, and get it back to near new shape...and finally giving up and fulfilling Walt Ks prophecy that pretty well everyone will sell their 928 once they reach a certain investment threshold or perceive the car is about to experience "another big $$." Therefore, they hold out for what is their bottom dollar on eBay (fair price but less than they paid..but still more money than most people are willing to pay in today's buyer's market. The market for exotic cars that are expensive to maintain keeps sinking...
Luckily, these cars are like a beautiful girlfriend and you can't let her go without a lot of hesitation and pain. Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and walk away. I've had cars (and women) like that.
If you fed up with trying to get anticipated money for your car and want to quickly drop a near perfect, low-milege, 928s4, GT, 911, 944 Turbo....I'm saving my $$ for when someone makes me an offer that I can't refuse. That situation sells cars fast even in a tight market and is probably accounting for a lot of recent sales. I bet a lot of you bought cars in that scenario...right?

Hughett: You have the right idea, I am saving up ( Have it ) for a 944 when it comes at the right price and right shape.
The hunt is the game....
Took me a year to find the 928 but both the price and the uniquiness of the car was worth it and yes I did steal it from the owner, after many months of trying to sell it ..

Hughett,
Very well put. I have a 1982 928 U.S. I have offered for sale. I've restored it from top to bottom, and it has turned out exactly as I wanted it to. Now, I've decided that an investment of $13K plus, in a vehicle that will sell for less then $10K is futile. I don't want to invest any more $$$, because what I want now is horsepower, and it is just less expensive to upgrade to a GT or GTS. These exotic cars are like an addiction, you just can't stop from feeding your habit, or your FIX if you will. But you know what, it is my only vice Gotta love em

Sooo....my near mint '85S w/65K miles, tight all over, complete and perfect interior, no cracks or missing parts, everything works, always garaged, always maintained, authority chips, RMB, new Cup1 wheels, Momo Steering wheel, new SO1 Z tires, new belts/hoses, etc, about new looking as you'll find for a 928S.. I paid $14.500 a year ago (Yes it was high but I was naive then)....I put some thousands of preventative maintenance upgrades in it....and I'd be lucky to get $5K or $6K for it today with all I've done to it...so I'm going to ATTEMPT to drive my equity out of it and hope I stay ahead of the high maintenance costs (This is a recurring dream for 928 owners that often turns into a nightmare). For me, the only other option would be to sell at a major loss in invesment.
The question in the minds of many potential buyers might be...if I look carefully and can buy an S4 for about $10K, what would I pay for a pre-32V?

A few weeks ago I bought my first 928, an '82 5 speed, for $4750. I live in NYC, but the car is a one-owner California vehicle. I put about $1000 into it (TB,WP, hoses, belts, tune-up), doing the work myself. I must say that repairing this car has been just about the most fun I've have working on a vehicle. There is so much room in front of the engine.
The car has a nearly perfect leather interior and the paint is in reasonably good condition. It has 147k miles on it, which I feel is a reasonable amt to have been driven since 84 when it was first put on the road. I'm so happy that I was able to find a really nice 5 speed for such a price. It makes me smile just looking at it sitting in the garage I've only driven it 3 times for just a few miles each. I love the way the engine revs freely and the handling is fantastic. I fully expect that will cost a good bit in the long run to replace this and that, but I find it amazing that such a fine auto was so inexpensive...
At first I didn't think I could live with the color (metallic rosewood) as I really wanted a blue one, but now I find it beautiful (and it seems to be a bit of a rare color). In the sunlight it has a coppery undertone.
pics of the car the day I got it:

Good to participate in this forum...I don't think I would have attempted to buy & work on one without the assistance of rennlist members, and 928 Specialists & 928 intl...
anyway, enough rambling
