Default Caliper refurb progress

Got all four ready to put back on the car today. They've all had new paint (my amateur work - not like those lovely pro powder coat jobs you see), pad guide plates, bleeders, seals, dust boots, decals and the retainer spring cleaned up. The pads now slide in instead of being jammed by plate corrosion! Have new flexible hoses all round too.

Was sorely tempted to scrape the thread lock off the plate machine screws as they create extra bother removing them (and heat is threat to the dust boots, but I knew I was replacing m,one so wasn't worried), but I went with the manual in the end as Porsche/Brembo must know a thing or two. I did put corrosion block grease on back of plates and on the caliper surfaces they rest on to hold off the Aluminium Oxide for a bit longer.

Hope this buys me a few years, and looking forward to seeing what the system is like after full bleed of course.

Just so everyone is aware, the vibration damping discs that spring-load into the pistons have adhesive under the paper backing, which must be removed so the discs adhere to the brake pad backing plates. Ask me how I didn't know the 1st time I installed new ones...

Following on Rob's comments a bit, it's also Very Important to get everything fitted up with pads in, calipers bled and tested, BEFORE you peel the adhesive backing from those cute little damper pads. Once everything is perfect, pop the pads, pull the backing, reinstall the pads, step on the pedal to connect the dampers to the pads.

IF one peels and places pads too soon in the process, the ONLY way to remove the pads is to remove the caliper from the rotor, and pry the dampers out of the pistons.

Finally got her buttoned up and back on road today with all callipers referred and system flushed and bled repeatedly.

The pedal feel is absolutely fantastic! I thought it was good before, but this is in another league. Stopping power very powerful, smooth and sure too, with no drama.

Well worth the time this project has taken, but it has meant missing a few summer driving events.
