FS: 5spd Tranmission & M28.19 engine
A shift in my 928 project priorities has led me to offer up for sale my freshly refurbished 5 speed transmission from my US '83 928S (the Ladybug).
The code on the transmission is G28/05/11C/1288
The transmission shifts well and is still in my car if anyone local who is seriously interested wants to test it out before purchasing.
The transmission was serviced by Greg Brown last year (July) and has approx. 1,150 miles on it so far. There is a slight weep from the front drain plug, but no drips. No issues at all really, just shifting my attention to another 928 with an auto trans.
Ive included photos below to show the condition, and Ive attached a photo of the service document from Precision Motorwerks.
Asking $3,000, local buyers get preference, packaging and shipping would be at your expense. Once sold, I will remove the transmission from the car and I can also help deliver locally. Or I can drop at 928 International if arrangements can be made with Mark for shipping.
Also I am selling the engine from the same car as well 4.7L US M28.19. The engine has been completely sorted by me with new seals, gaskets, water pump, belt, rebuilt tensioner and oil pump. The heads were rebuilt by Greg B. & Mark A's recommended local machinist. The gears are in good shape. The cam tower seals are from Greg B. The motor runs strong, doesn't leak and also has about 1,150 miles on it since the refresh (unconfirmed total milage). My plan was to perform a compression check and oil analysis prior to selling, but I thought I'd put it out there to gauge interest. I have tons of photos and documents to support the sale of the engine. Also if anyone wants to test it out prior to buying, now'd be the time. The engine will come with oil pan, block and internals, heads, throttle body, new (rebuilt) AFM, intake runners and plenum, tensioner, oil pump, and belt. It will not come with hoses, sensors, fuel injection components, vacuum lines, etc. The details we can work out. Asking $3,000 for the engine. Same goes for local buyers and shipping.
At the moment, I won't be parting anything else out, just selling these two items. I may have a few goodies to offer up at a later date.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the feedback.
A few things I've remembered (disclosures).
The engine sale will also include the water pump (rebuilt unit from 928Intl), water bridge, distributor, cap and rotor.
Two timesert repairs were performed on the engine. 1 at the alternator bracket mount (lowest of the three IIRC), the other on the rear-left water bridge bolt. Both repairs were successful and bolts tightened to spec torque.
Regarding sealants and lubes. The head gaskets, cam tower gaskets and cork oil pan gasket were all installed dry. Tensioner and water pump factory gaskets installed dry. The water bridge was installed with the factory gasket w/ the red bead and Driebond. The oil level sensor on the front of the oil pan had one (of three) stripped bolt so I used Permatex anaerobic on that union. All o-rings were coated with a little Dow 111 during installation. Engine assembly grease was used on everything internal prior to the first start after the refresh. Optimoly, anti-seize (gold or silver) was used on all hardware, depending on the metal unions. PTFE was used on the coolant exposed hardware.
The oil (Brad Penn 20w-50) was drained and replaced with new after the first hundred or so miles.
Ill add more info as I remember it or as it is presented to me. I took her out tonight and made a few videos of the engine and transmission operations. They are uploading now and Ill post the links when they are ready.
Also I ordered a couple sampling kits from Blackstone labs for engine oil analysis. It'll probably be a few weeks until I get the results, but I figure it may be helpful for anyone considering.
For those in California and states with like emissions, the car passed smog with flying colors. The ignition timing has been set at 20* @ 3,000RPM per the hood sticker. Ive been told it could probably benefit power-wise from another degree or two of advance (without screwing up the emissions) but I haven't had the chance to fiddle with it.

Hi. Quick question: when you say the engine will not come with fuel injection components do you mean you are keeping the injectors, fuel lines, and fuel rails? I assume you would be keeping the LJet brain in either case...

Parting it out sort of. I found another project car and I'll use the majority of the new parts from this car, for that one. So the cost of all those new parts is much more than I could get for the car as a whole. If that makes sense. The engine and trans are not compatible with the new project car, so that's why I'm selling these items.

I think you might be surprised at what the whole car might bring, especially considering your documentation on the build. I would list it on Bring A Trailer and see what happens as it seems wrong to take that nice build apart. GLWS!

Some more info on the engine. Paperwork suggests the car may have 208,000 miles. Speedo reads 89,xxx. Odometer and trip counter were operational when I bought the car in 2013. Engine since refresh has 1,2xx miles. Rings, rods, pistons and cylinders were not touched during refresh. No detectable scratches/flaws in cylinders when I opened it up. I believe there is some discussion and documentation of the condition in the Ladybug thread. Oil sample arrived at Blackstone Labs this morning. Im hoping for results next week, Ill post when they arrive.
Compression test performed just now indicate the following:
#1-165psi
#2-150psi
#3-160psi
#4-163psi
#5-162psi
#6-163psi
#7-156psi
#8-165psi
And photos of the spark plugs after 1,2xx miles:
Some more info on the engine. Paperwork suggests the car may have 208,000 miles. Speedo reads 89,xxx. Odometer and trip counter were operational when I bought the car in 2013. Engine since refresh has 1,2xx miles. Rings, rods, pistons and cylinders were not touched during refresh. No detectable scratches/flaws in cylinders when I opened it up. I believe there is some discussion and documentation of the condition in the Ladybug thread. Oil sample arrived at Blackstone Labs this morning.
