Thanks Hacker for starting this.

Mobil 1 15w-50 for the 81 and the 84. Because in 2005 when I purchased many Rennlister's recommended it.
The 81 just came back to life with a 4.7L with M1 oil. I notice when warm the oil pressure in about 3 bar where is was 5 bar before - not sure why.

I see several comments about pressure. Have other noticed lower pressure with M1?

If it is 3 bar at hot idle then that sounds about right. My S4 is 5 bar at cold idle until it warms up where it will drop to 2.2 when hot.

+1 on the Shell Rotella T6 5W-40, for the reasons mentioned above by hb253 and the fact that it is a lot thinner than the rest when the engine is cold. Used to run M1 15W-50 for 15 years... but there was camshaft pitting on my GT after some ~40K km. Pressure is just as stable as the M1 even when hot. Got new cams made so I thought I'd go thinner when cold to get the oil there sooner.

M1 15W-50

On the camshaft pitting issue wondering how much of that is due to laying up for the winter months without changing to fresh oil first?

Mobil 1 15W50 with one 11 oz bottle of Rislone ZDDP additive. My car's new addiction.

Here is the tech sheet for the Rislone. It is very similar to Swepco 502.

This is the Rislone 4405 ZDDP additive:

Here in Canada this oil is crazy expensive!
When returning from SITM June 2016, I stopped at a Walmart close to Pittsburgh and no stock. Hope to get a few jugs when returning from Frenzy.
Any recommendations/suggestions?
It has to be on sale to get that price. I was at a Wal Mart this past weekend and it WAS on sale, but no 15w50, which is what I use in most of my vehicles, including the 928.

I run Del-Ron 10W60, custom hand-made racing oil produced here in Finland.

Why - got it cheap with extra deal and it performs on my car so much better than traditional VR1 Racing oils for example (revs easier, better mpg and does not smoke).

Zero. The car always had the oil changed in November or early December before being put away for the winter, and furthermore it is stored indoors in a heated parking garage where I start it up and drive it in the underground lot at least once every couple of weeks.

I am not insinuating that the M1 somehow CAUSED the pitting, but dirty, acidic oil was certainly not a contributing factor.

It (Mobil 1 15w50) was the oil used on this program and later helped to validate synthetics for Corvette. I trust the engineering data on this - if it worked there, it'll work on our cars, too.

Mobile 1 15W50 works great and has the correct levels of Phosphorous and Zinc, and is available for a very reasonable price at Walmart (~$23 per 5 qt container).

Default Australian availability of Mobil 1 Oils

Most of the recommendations I've read above (and I value these opinions), are Mobil 1 15W-50. But as far as I can see, this is not available in Australia. It is not listed on the Mobil website (Aus version). I dont like the idea of buying 5L ex USA (shipping would be horrendous).

Any Aussie shark owners out there that can confirm this? and if not, what retail outlets have it available.

Oh my goodness , Western Australia with the megs high ambient temps , min viscosity 20w-50 , like it says in the owners manual , wouldn't even dream of putting 15w-50 in 4.7s where you are
