Porsche Classic radio

Porsche Classic radio
There has been a lot of talk about the Porsche Classic radio and I have searched the threads and can't find anyone that has bit the bullet and installed one in a 928.
I find that most modern radio's are really hard to see ( us old guys require BIG letters and numbers). Also all the new radios have far too many functions. My goal is to drive the car not fuss with radio options. I would like a radio that has a readable dial, ***** that I can feel without looking at them as well as something that will charge my iPhone. Sirius would be good, but most important is something I can glance down as see. I put a Kenwood in my red 86.5 ( burn edition) and it's impossible to see. Is there a good compromise?

I have certainly sold a lot of them - not seen any pictures installed as yet.
I would not put one in any of my 928's - screen is way to small to be seen.
Just my opinion.

It's odd that Continental list these products only under their Trucks web pages. The car pages show only a more sophisticated double DIN unit! Maybe because all the head units are available as 24V power versions?

Once I decide and get it installed I'll start a thread on it.

The unit is available through a firm in the Netherlands (IIRC) who ships stateside. You can download the owner's manual (as I have) with all of the features and specifications. It has about 25 watts RMS per channel (4 channels) at 4 ohms. The model # ending with "18' has RDS and features a digital system which is not compatible the digital radio used on this continent. The model# ending in "16" does not have RDS but does include, the USB, Bluetooth, AM/FM and the CD if desired. One thing that is unfortunate is that there is no line out for an additional amplifier or subwoofer; but that can be remedied by the use of a speaker line-adapter which is discussed on a video in the 911 blog that Hacker refers to. It seems like an excellent $$ value with a classic look and reasonable abilities without hacking up your console and I'm about to pull the plug myself. It would be a great option for one of our dedicated 928 suppliers to have available alongside the Porsche unit . Roger........Roger?!! I'd rather buy it from you and it looks like several others are also very interested!

As I recall with this radio, it does not have proper wiring interfaces for a 928! That means you will have to hack some stuff up, but if that's what you want it may be worth it. For a classic radio, you think they would have thought of that at USD 1'100!!!
I like the idea basically. If it had UKW, KW, MW and LW like my period Blaupunkt does (I really listening to shortwave (KW) driving at night though) with standard DIN plug connections in back, I would probably buy it, slap it in and see if I liked it.

I just got another 3 of them to install today, they are going fast up here in Utah for some reason. Today's install is a 79' euro brown 5-speed with pascha seats. Beautiful car and I just got done installing an original Blaupunkt w/5 band EQ and a 4 channel (20 watts per!) amp. It didn't sound like he expected so it gets new speakers, amp and head unit. The next one slated is a 79' 930 and then his wife's 964. A couple weeks ago I put one in an 89' GT with all the bells and whistles. 11 speakers, two amps, 3 GPS antennas and it is pretty unbelieveable. I can't say I am a big fan of the head unit but the audio quality is quite good. It needs more pre-amp outputs and some type of visual audio level indicator. The touch screen is way too small for any useful interactions while driving, listening to the nav system is the only option unless you have the eyes of an eagle.
They keep buying them, I'll keep putting them in.
