New radio option with a vintage look
This isn't about the Classic Porsche unit from this thread:
https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...ics-radio.html
Browsing the 944 forum a thread on the same radio:
https://rennlist.com/forums/924-931-...-porsches.html
This Continental unit was posted in that thread which looks excellent in a "vintage" Porsche interior and much cheaper than the factory option @ $140:
http://www.bergvillfx.com/index.php/...7412ub-or.html
I'm tempted to order a couple of these for future projects just in case they get discontinued:
Matte black finish,
non-detachable front LCD display and keys with orange backlight illumination
Front USB port,
FAT12/16/32 (max 32GB)
Worldwide FM RDS tuner / AF / TA / EON / PTY
LW, MW and FM with AST
Bluetooth cell phone (HSP, HFP, A2DP, AVRCP)
Internal and external handsfree microphone
Max. music power: 4 X 41 Watt
Dimensions (WxHxD) 188x56x120mm
DIN/ISO Connectors
3,5mm jack AUX input on front panel

Looks like around $140. That's a nice-looking unit.

This thread in the 993 forum (https://rennlist.com/forums/993-foru...-or-radio.html) mentions that the USB port isn't Ipod compatible, though, which is a bummer.

Besides, it has a standard 3.5mm headphone jack input, use that with the iPod if you don't want to use bluetooth.
I'm curious to know if it can play FLAC or any other lossless format since that is what all my music is saved as.

Three Wheelin'
Hmmmm, Throw in Sirius and/or Pandora capability and I'd be all over it. Although I'd like Nav, I can live without it or throw a Garmin unit on the dash for another $150 for the 8 times a year I would probably use it.

I was searching on the "classic radio" and thought the same thing about the Continental. The chrome ring around the *** is not so great tho and the yellow/orange backlight just doesn't seem vintage or period correct. Think I'm going to hold out for the classic (US version.)

I like that Continental. The next one up (cd player) is nice!
You can get a line level converter and go from speaker wire to rca to amp and you are good to go!

speaker-to-line pad to connect high output amp
BTW: my reasonably high end Definitive Technology home theater speaker system uses this exact approach to as one of the options to connect its powered subwoofer to the L&R signals from the output stage of the receiver (or whatever) for those system w/o a dedicated '.1' subwoofer out. And it works just fine in a far more critical listening environment.
In short: pre-outs on car stereo head units are convenient and theoretically better but practically unnecessary. So if one likes the look, the speaker-to-line pad followed by a higher output power amp stage would work just fine.
Even as I type this, I know I'm treading perilously close to starting a holy war.

Yes, that's a good point. Worth considering. I'm very happy with the sound and features of my Pioneer but it looks terribly out of place with the gimmicky lights. This unit looks waayy better to me.
