Gates Racing Timing Belt - Anyone have one for sale or looking for one?
In case you have no idea what I'm talking about, check out these threads by Roger Tyson of 928's R Us:
https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...m-928srus.html
https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...ming-belt.html
Long story short, Twin Turbo Todd likes to plan years ahead for his projects. He is in need of a couple Gates Racing Timing Belts for future use.
Roger is out of stock and needs 60+ orders to justify doing another production run. If you are interested in helping get such a run going, they cost about $170 based on the last quote (this is subject to change....).
If you have one lying around you can part with Todd is interested in buying it.
Why?
His 1,000+hp Twin Turbo engine will not function with a stock belt (of any brand) they are simply too stretchy for the stiff valve springs he uses. When testing various stock belts (yes the Gates one too) he was able to turn the crankshaft up to 10 degrees before the cams started to move. The stock belts were stretching that much.
With the racing belt it was a direct 1:1 ratio, it wasn't even close by comparison.
Do you need one in your 928? That's for you to decide, not what this thread is for - please don't turn this into a debate on which belt "we" should be using. Bottom line is Todd needs them, there is no debate on that, and I plan to slowly convert my cars over to this belt assuming I can source them as needed.
To recap, this thread is for one of two things to happen:
1. Todd would like to buy your racing timing belt if you don't foresee using it
2. Post in this thread, send Roger an e-mail or PM, or call Roger to let him know you would like to buy one.
Both Todd and I would like to see #2 happen to keep these in rotation.

I don't have a racing belt but I would be in for 1 just to make it possible to see what Todd comes up with next.

Count me in on wanting one. I'm 4 years in on my first one and will be due soon.

I'm in for one, possibly two. I was planning to get one to begin with, but I didn't realize they were that rare. The timing on this is perfect. (no pun intended)

how long are they good sitting in the box? I have one of the originals that I have not used but do plan on in the near future...

I have a Gates Racing in my '88 manual but am hoping to test going the other way soon - to a Continental - for passive high rpm cam retard.
It would be nice to know the Racing belts would still be available, though.
