Oil pressure drops to zero

Oil pressure drops to zero
The central warning system light came on. A quick look at the gauges showed Zero oil pressure and shut it down. Checked everything I could and found nothing a miss oil level was good no puddle of oil under the car, no trail of oil on the street, nothing. Decided to coast down the street to my driveway. Checked everything I could and found nothing. Decided that I would see if it would turn over hit the key and it fired instantly, noticed that both the oil the and voltage gauge were reading zero. Looks like an electrical problem. Any idea as where to start? Are the printed wiring still available?

Check the condition of the engine wiring loom going into the 14 pin connector [next to the hot post] in the engine bay passenger side [LHD]. That loom carries amongst other things the oil pressure sender signal and the alternator voltage signal and if you still have the original wiring chances are you have no insulation by now.
Look at the individual cores- you may see some insulation but if the colour has gone or if you bend the cable and the insulation splits you know it is toast. You may even find no insulation whatsoever on some wires.
Given you have two known issues running concurrently this is likely to be the most obvious "common cause".

The sending unit has two wires, one for the gauge and one for the light. Separate circuits that very rarely fail at the same time. Is the oil pressure light on or does it go out (the one inside the oil pressure gauge)? Like Fred said check the 14 pin and make sure all is good there.

Check that the multiple plug that connects to the instrument panel has not dropped off. Since you have two unrelated issues this is the common link. You will have to remove the steering wheel, disconnect the pod and tilt the top towards the seat to see the status of the connection. I just had this same issue with my 80 on the left side with the fuel and temperature gauges. The connectors on these early cars do not hold as tight as the later ones with levers etc.

Thanks for all the insights, pulled the 14 pin connector after 37 years it needed some help. Worn sheathing on two wires, one burn spot. Issues corrected gauges working now.
