Early vs. Late 32v Spark Plug wires - is there a difference?
Sorry I have a bit of a problem
I purchased a set of plug wires from a 928 vendor and they arrived today. I'm super excited since I wanted to get the car back on the road, but the plug wires don't fit.
The wire holder routing is all wrong, and the #4 and #8 wires are MUCH shorter than the ones I took off. It got me to think if the wires changed between the '85/'86 and '86.5 + 32 v motors. There was no option to make that distinction on their site as it said "all 32v motors 85+"
If they are different, is there a way to make them work? Do I need a whole new set or can I get just the wires that are wrong?
I would like to get the car running this weekend, but now I'm stuck if I can't make these work.
Thanks!

There is no difference at all between 85,86,86.5 ignition wires, the all route the same and are attached to the fuel rails and go down over the cam covers and snap into the plastic hooks then on the spark plugs.
The '87 S4 and newer have a different routing and do not attach to the Fuel rails, are you sure you have 85/86 wires?

Man I'm just so bummed. Wanted to get the car running this weekend, but don't want to install a set of expensive wires only to find out I can't return them later. I measured the lengths of the two sets hoping it was only the #4 / #8 wires that were too short, turns out there are more differences than that.
Early 32v
#1 19 - #5 22
#2 38 - #6 40
#3 47 - #7 48
#4 38 - #8 39
Late 32v
#1 19.5 - #5 19
#2 37 - #6 39
#3 43 - #7 41.5
#4 25 - #8 25
So really only 3 of the wires will work with the original routing. This stinks...

You will get used to it....this is a minor problem, in the "928 world".
By the time you have the car done, you won't even remember this tiny bump.
