Deep fry! What did you have for desert, angioplasty?

Just kidding, I'm sure it was delicious. Most folks up hear bake their Turkeys, one of these days I will have to try a deep fried bird.

Happy Thanksgiving.

The most succulent Turkey you will ever taste.
21 Lb bird and only takes 70 minutes to cook.

Bet your deep fried turkey was fantastic.
Some of the best turkey I've ever had was given to a friend's Mom that was deep fried garlic turkey an Asian family gave her for helping them learn english. That what the first deep fried turkey I had ever seen or heard of.

Did something different this year. Recently got a Charbroil TruInfrared Smoker Roster Grill. Best I can describe it is it's like a propane fired oven that looks like a turkey fryer with a grill on top and a box on the side you can put chips in if you want smoke. You can use it as a Smoker, a Roaster, or a Grill.

Decided to smoke the turkey this year.
Filled the smoker box with a mix of hickory and apple.
Set it a 400°F and dropped a non-brined, non-injected just raw 20lb. bird in with a bluetooth thermometer stuck in it.
It only took a little over an hour just like Roger's fryer and "Bing" the thermometer went of it wss 145°F inside, done.
Took it out, wrapped it in foil and a towel and let it set for another 30 minutes to finish off.

The skin was almost black but not burned. Just crispy smokey delicious.
Was so juicy that you could see the juice run out as we carved it.
With the mix of hickory and apple the meat was tender and tasty with just a hint of smooth smokey flavor.
The Grill even had a catch tray to catch the juice that did come out while cooking to make gravy!
Didn't have to brine it, inject it, or mess with any oil and it only took the roaster 10 minutes to heat up.
This was ever bit a good as that garlic fried turkey.

I took the bird to my Nephews where our family had Thanksgiving dinner.
They also had another turkey they roasted the traditional way with an oven bag.
Compared to the smoked turkey the oven roasted turkey was dry and flavorless.
There wasn't any of the smoked turkey left for me to bring home.

The instructions that came with the smoker says if you rub the turkey down with peanut oil and don't put any chips in the smoker box it comes out just like it was cooked in an oil fryer. I haven't tried that yet to vouch for it though.

I am really lovin my new Charbroil smoker roaster grill thing!

Hope everyone had a happy and delicious Turkey Day!

We've been smoking turkeys on T-Day for the last several years. The leftovers are smokey too! The best...I think this evening is officially "Smoked Turkey Tetrazzini Day" lol...

The question yet to be asked is: what oil did you use?

Best turkey I've ever had was deep fried. Loved the crispy outside and very juicy inside, as turkey is often dry.

However, I recently acquired a RecTec smoker, so smoked turkey is on the list of things to try.
