The car in itself is really special:
- Preproduction CS (4 made for the Porsche racing drivers after the Le Mans 1987 victory).
- Produced 6 months before the production CS.
- Given by Porsche to the driver.
- All of them identical, white with full blue leather interior.
Derek Bell has kept this one from 1988 to 2003.

But I know this. Using this car as any kind of data point for the 928 value is likely going to prove - disappointing. i.e.; "My non-running, rusted, missing interior, tree growing through front, yard-art 928 is now worth $16,000 because the same thing just sold for $280,000 at auction".
The rest of us are just musing about the positive attention to the 928 world that may trickle down in some way to our cars. You always focus on the "non-running rusted" examples to prove your point while the rest of the planet (except your partner in crime Lambright) is looking at the pristine cars like Rob owns.
You constantly ignore data from people like Roger, Greg, Jim Doerr who claim interest, demand and money invested in these cars has been on a rapid rise.
Does any of this mean your clapped out rusted bucket of a 928 will be worth six figures someday? No, I don't recall anyone making such an outlandish claim except you and Lambright...and maybe a few other cheerleaders standing on the sidelines "hoping" they are onto a goldmine with their rust bucket.
You continue to associate any claims of 928's going up in value with the person stating they now have a six figure car. If the average 928 has gone up 10% then that is "going up in value". I fully understand this is well below your level of giving a **** of acknowledging of something positive.
Are you on the Lamborghini forum pointing out to people the Countach they bought for $100k years ago is only worth $400k now if they do a $300k restoration which means their car hasn't really gone up in value?
I know one thing for sure. I've been showing 928's in Elkhart Lake every summer since the early 90's. Never before has there been this much interest. I have collectors I've known by name only coming up to me asking 100 questions about adding a 928 to their collection. I was sitting at Lake St Cafe for several hours on Friday with two of our 928's parked out front. Few people walked by without stopping and looking, taking photos of our cars. That NEVER happened before.
Will the average 928 catch the value of the average air cooled 911? No, and most with half a brain realize this. But when your average 911 was worth under $15k a few years ago is now worth $30k, it's ludicrous to think 928 values will remain stagnant or go down.
Do I think this car is worth $250k? Not really, seams like a fishing expedition to me but once again, a 928 with a huge price tag is making the rounds causing a lot of people who otherwise ignore 928 headlines to sit up and take notice. Increased interest usually leads to increased demand. Even if it's only for the "outlier" pristine examples, that still something.

Equating the value of 928 with a Countach is laughable. I guess the fact they both have four black round tires makes it possible.
Interest in the 928 is good. It's very good. I like it. I like it when my cars go up in value. I'm a fan-boy but with a healthy dose of reality mixed in.
Right now, today you can't buy a roller shell of a 80s 911 for $5000. You can't even buy a straight hood and bumper for an early 911 for that kind of money. But - as I have shown you can buy a whole running, driving, stopping, 928 for less than that. So, once more with vigor, if you start at $3000 and double your money where are you? I like making $3000 as much as the next guy. I've made money on each 928 I've bought, and expect to continue. But the only one's doubling in price are the ones that start off at $400-1100. I have a vested interest in seeing values climb. I have put my money where my mouth is repeatedly because I know the prices will increase, and I like the car!
What do you want from me? If you're looking for gushing, and fawning, and some kind of fireworks show-Ponzi deal where you can make millions from that one special chassis - I'm not your guy. Sorry.

Well you old curmudgeon, I'm tickled to learn you actually own an ascot (penny loafers I could care less about), so whether you wear it or not, you get style points. Not so much for reading skills, however, as you seem to be tilting at a windmill only you see. Going back over the posts back to #1, I don't seem to find any claims that you are busy refuting! So Derek Bell was able to secure a 928CS for what reason?? It appears that he was primarily a Ferrari driver and that he was well-liked. I really do not know him or his connection with Porsche.
I'm not that well liked and I don't drive for Ferrari but my mother and my dog seem to like me. Shouldn't that qualify me for some kind of prototype/limited edition Porsche?
