Had accidentally submitted a duplicate post and couldn't delete. Sorry.

Decided to go ahead and repair this one that goes to what I think is the knock sensor. PO had done a pretty bad job. Took it apart and this is what I found. Looks like two wires with the third connecting to the metal sheathing that's wrapped around the other two.

Does this look right?

Is the screening braid supposed to go to one of the pins like this.

Yes, there are a few connectors like this (CPS is another) where the braided shielding ensures a clean signal to the computer.

Edited: Oh I see this is an S3, no knock sensor so this is the CPS. I had a similar question about this connector a few months ago.

Thanks for the reply - but just to clarify - I do indeed put the braided bare wire to one of the connectors ?

Yes, there's a pic in the thread I linked showing how it came from the factory.

Just for the record and in case anyone is looking for info in the future. Attached are a few photo's. I used the replacement connectors from Roger. Basically carefully cut away some of the plastic sheathing. Then twisted the exposed metal braid and crimped new connectors. It certainly looks a lot better than the PO job. Just hope it will work.

That's pretty much what mine ended up looking like after assembly though I think I added some heat shrink to the shielding prior to adding another layer over all three wires.
