Tim,
If you haven't put the engine back together yet, I would suggest pulling the heads and replacing the head gaskets. The older cars' headgaskets seem to not fare well just sitting. I worked on my first 928 for 4 years, had the engine out for some other engine work and no one told me to pull the heads. I got it all back together, drove it twice and found that oil was bubbling out of the head bolts. Very, Very discouraging.
You are in a great place to have a leak free engine.
Good Luck on your project!!

I have new studs, washers and nuts to install under fresh heads from Kirtlan Automotive. All I lack are 3 pistons for completing build. More than meets the eye as far as repairs. Bridge for crank was cracked also.
Some things you do for money. Somethings you do for fun. Some things you do out of necessity. Some thing you do to be different. But some things I do because other people say I shouldn't even though I can, I like to, and it pisses them off....

Good for you! Somebody ran the car over a curb or car stop apparently, huh? Nice fix there.
Glad you pulled the heads. I absolutely hate to fix stuff more than once. I'm just waiting on time and money to re-pull the engine that I pulled before.

The peanut gallery isn't as bad on here as it is on FB, but it's still there.
You have to learn who to ignore and who to listen to (Hint: John Curry is on the latter list).

Then you hear that sound removing trim that makes you want to remove a windshield. Mess is cleaned up and on to....... I know, let's start cleaning out the mouse nest under the HVAC system.
Underneath HVAC
After some clean up.

HVAC system is all removed. I'll be replace the juke insulation after removing fuse panel. Blower motor is toast, diverter valve is cleaned out and started disassembling the heater/ac box for clean up. What a weekend and not a good one!

Thank you for the kind words Joe.
Tim, it appears that you have removed a long time mouse party house from your car.
It's probably a little bit early for this, but something to keep in mind, replace ALL of the vacuum actuators before reinstalling the dash.
In addition, when you remove the Central Fuse panel, remove the fuses and relays and clean the connections. Use DeOxit after cleaning. Make sure all the fuses fit tight upon re-insertion.
The blower motor itself can be replaced with a stock motor. It can also be rebuilt with new bearings. It can also be replaced with a higher output motor that will part your hair, but I would recommend changing the housing to a later housing if you decide to go this road.
The sliver box you see covered with dust in your last picture is your cruise control brain. Most of us have some sort of issue with the CC brain. Sometimes it can be repaired by reflowing the multitude of solder joints on the circuit board inside. Sometimes it needs to be sent to Roger's witch doctor who says magic voodoo words over cruise control brains and makes them all well again.
Good Luck and keep posting!

One more thing while I am thinking about it:
While you have your front fenders off, open your sunroof and run a line trimmer line down through your front sunroof drain holes. You should see the trimmer line come out through the end of the rubber hoses about halfway down just in front of the door. If the trimmer line does not appear, find where it is stopped and fix that area. This will help keep water from dripping on you during rain or after giving your car a bath. You might have to slide the A pillar covers straight towards the back of the car to remove them and the drain tubes are underneath those as well. The A pillar covers can be on there pretty well and are sometimes ornery to get off. No better time than windshield out/dash off time to remove them

Thanks, I'll check the drains. Figured that was the ruination of the original headliner backing board that you can see in the disassembly picture. Also a pillar covers didn't want to give up without a fight, some of the clips wanted to stay. All of the interior is currently draped in the finest (cheapest) rubberized vinyl and dash looked like, well, a kid with a spray can of adhesive and some really dull shears got hold of it.
How's the interior?
Junk but at lease the foams are intact so far.

Engine #2
So, it's been awhile and spent time sanding. (not exciting) Been watching the 4.7 engine market since I need 3 pistons and finally found 1 within driving distance. Young man fixed me up with plenty of extra goodies on the engine. Got it home last friday and gave it a power bath. In the garage Saturday and too tired to start on Sunday. Hope to open it up this week to see if I should build it or salvage 3 pistons for the original.
Thanks Ludwig. Hope it looks as good inside as it cleaned up.
