Steering rack bushings and Brakes
Car just failed it's mot on steering rack bushings. I see people change to aftermarket options for these. What is wrong with the ones Porsche supply?
Also my car failed on rear brake fluctuation on one side and a warning on the other. I changed pads about 1000 miles ago but not the discs. I'm now going to do the discs. You are supposed to change pads when you do disc but with so few miles on is it really necessary?
Cheers Mike

The bushes if original are simply worn, and this wear is accelerated by oil leaks from power steering, sump gasket accumulating on the crossmember and softening the bushes to point where they allow too much play in rack.
You can replace with Porsche, but I changed mine (still good after 24 years) with Delrin bushes which are cheaper, and chemically more robust. They are slightly stiffer than original, and gave my steering a lovely precise feel without allowing any jarring through the rack.

+1 on the Delrin bushings. I replaced them while doing the motor mount job. On the first drive I immediately noticed the steering improvement. The Delrin bushings have thicker shoulders and will lower the rack a slightly. Your steering wheel will be off a few degrees afterward. I don't know why I haven't done anything about it yet. Car tracks nice and straight as ever.

Ok derlin bushes it is. Got them ordered from Roger. This car is trying its hardest not to pass its MOT. First 3 MOTs abandoned due to power steering leaks and fuel leaks. Now a fail on these. Also have warnings on rusty fuel lines, worn upper control arms and rusty suspension parts. Plan to refresh suspension soon but the other 2 will be a pain I think.

I used identical engine support when I did mounts/OPG, but using just one jacking thread at engine shackle (where ignition leads cross)

Great. I'll get this one ordered. I think I'll go for the silicone gasket and the stud bolts in the OPG. Didn't expect to be doing all this for my mot but MM and OPG have been on the to do list for a while.

Welcome to the 928 club! Everything you are experiencing is typical- i am pretty much on the same page as you with the heat here shortening half lives of rubber items so I see some issues a bit earlier than others [I also have some benefits as well- no cold starts]. It was 47C today and now it is stinking humid outside- that and I am in the process of moving home - so spare a thought for me!
I used the Volvo motor mounts from Roger and did them at the same time I did the Delrin bushes and can recommend both. I now have a dodgy upper A arm joint and suspect lower A arms squeaking. The only real way to cure these things is get them done as a job lot [if you can afford the readies].
The 928 is a great machine but it is not an economy club venture [sad to say].
