I trust everyone will dash out to their cars, pop their hoods, and inspect for this too-commonly missing part. You can use the 5/16" E-clip, with the too-thick hardware-store washer. (8mm = 5/16+0.003")

Parts Purveyor Extraordinaire Roger has identified a much more secure transmission-linkage clip that is easy to R&R when needed, but won't fall or otherwise work its way off as the E-clips seem to. They really are genuine Porsche parts, just not original to this application. You can argue improved-in-place to the concour judges, better than explaining the puddle of coolant and the overheated engine.
