928 DeMoines: I completely agree! Any vehicle is happier if driven. A vehicle that sits...rots. I believe I am lucky in that there will only be a short time in the winter that I will not drive the Red Witch. Snow + 928S = bad idea. That is Explorer weather.

dr bob: You are so right. Day to day issues can be dealt with accordingly, as opposed to find them all at once.
It is your talk to me about just that on the finickyness of CIS that caused me to abandon my search for a CIS 928.

Rob Edwards: I have no experience, but I will give you a "WHAT-WHAT!!!" I saw your posts in the Minerva thread about the corroded freshly plated CIS fuel lines. What fun...

Seth K. Pyle...driving a 928 just about every day.

Well put, and I just trained my computer to treat "sniggle" as a real word. In another universe I inhabit (a notoriously difficult brass instrument), the word "clam" is used to denote an embarrassing mishap; I think I'll start using "sniggle" for that, too.

I suffered a sniggle (or clam) just yesterday: I need a new battery. Meanwhile, I hooked up a charger to my charge post! It's not just some feature that garners unwanted attention, it is useful! Mine is normally covered, I hasten to add, but it's a little wonky; a zip-tie is involved.

More to the subject: you may drive the car, Seth, but when you sell it on, I insist that it be a better car than when you bought it. I think that's the proper ethic of owning a classic car, and it's challenging enough.

"Sniggles" include the funny things that happen, but more often start out as annoyances that show up. Generally not fatal or disabling, but annoying. The crime starts when you get deaf to them (maybe in Curt's case), ignoring them rather than fixing, somehow rationalizing a delay in treatment until it you get so used them that they become the new normal.

My sniggles list grew by two yesterday, as I was searching out the source of a tiny oil spot on the floor under the stored car. Turns out my "new" oil pan gasket, installed 15 years ago now along with motor mounts, has a tiny crack now near one of the bolts. I can get a pinky in between the motor mount safety hooks, so it looks like I need to re-do that project. It's a bit out of warranty, unfortunately. Should I do it all now, or add it to my next-winter project list?

Reminds me years ago when premium was over $5 a gallon. On my way to work I saw a yellow ZO6 going the other way with a very familiar red tow hook sticking out the front.

Sure enough, it was my friends track car with a Katech 427 under the hood.

When I asked him about it he said: "It still averages almost 30mpg down the highway while my truck is lucky to hit 15".

Adk: Sniggle or clam, either way it is hilarious!
Thank you for the kind words. I try to take care of my equipment, to make it better than when I got it. This is what I love. It makes me happy to have something mechanically sound, or even improved.

dr bob: That is a very dark truth. Complacency and ignorance will cause most little problems to become big problems.
I am keeping a little 'squawk sheet' listing problems and issues I find as I drive the Red Witch. I am making plans to deal with them in some semblance of a priority order.
Ouch, I too am facing an MM/OPG job sooner or later...

Hacker-Pschorr: You aren't kidding. I've gone from 16mpg in the Explorer to 22mpg in the Red Witch.

Thanks!
