H4 Bulb question: My Euro can Finally See Properly again, and Adjusters WORK!
Replaced the '80 Euro US headlights/chrome rings with original H4 lights today. Brings my car back to completely Euro spec as the motor was never updated- only remaining changes were sidelights (sadly) and door beams (not a bad idea). What was amazing to me is that the beam adjusters still work - you can see the lights tilt when you turn the ****. Never seen one in action as all my other cars they cut the lines and from what I've read there is little gain and a ton of time involved in getting the system to work again. (Although I trust Rob will be successful on the Minerva car - seems to be a resourceful guy).
Anybody know if the 90/100 watt bulbs will work without a relay upgrade?
Thinking about these: http://www.busdepot.com/725543
Done it many times 80/100 watt all way use relay's and take power form jump post fix relay's in in headlight pod ceramic bulb holder, and use original suply for switching relay's .
Get rid of the Orange Distributor Cap.
Man, the color on that is excellent!
So are the lights. But 90ish, better up the fuse and check ohmage (om-mage?)
My "before a full cup of coffee" eyes missed the 80 part of the topic and immediately thought Alex was talking about getting one of his 78 euro cars back to 100% original.
I'm looking at the pictures and thinking...poor Alex...he thinks this car is an 78...and didn't want to be the one to break it to him that someone had changed a bunch of stuff if it was...lol.
Anyhow, looks great Alex. So, what is the theory behind this adjustability idea? Is it for when you have heavy stuff loaded in the trunk or something? Never could really wrap my brain around its existence.
What's the orange dust cap? I'm baffled here...I haven't had my coffee yet either..

Yes the color/paint is something pretty special. I'm taking great care to preserve it as it's completely original. Mirrors will need a repaint, and various chips here and there but my goal is a 'preservation' car.

Brian.
That's funny... it is a slightly different beast than the '78's..upper range of tach is where it's really noticeable..pulls quite a bit more than the '78 cars from 3500RPM on up.
I would think the headlight adjustability was for when you have rear passengers. These cars threw more light in Euro trim than anything on the road, was another safety feature.

The 'high end' shop that did over 6k of work for the PO put the filter in wrong. It only says "TOP" in giant letters on the filter material on the side they put on the bottom. Same place that tried to adjust clutch and recommended clutch replacement but didn't fix the completely missing release lever ball cup.
I may go Woodypeck LED if I want to light up the road, or go stock bulbs as I like the 'warmness' of the original bulbs. I don't really want to start changing wiring/relays if I don't have to.
