Removing sliders from HVAC control unit??
I'm attempting to replace the backlit faceplate with a new grey-colored temperature scale on my HVAC control unit and don't want to eff it up. How do I get the lighted slider ***** off without busting stuff? They do not want to pull off and I can see no other way. A little help from my friends?

buy two new sliders and the metal spring clips,
you will destroy the originals removing them.
NOTE best to take them apart with the HVAC unit on the bench and the covers off

Yes, have to have controller out with covers off. If careful can remove and re-use. Is a matter of softly pulling out fiber optic filament and removing the metal clip. Virtually impossible to do in situ. Can use a little clear crazy glue when replacing the fiber optic filament back into the slider ****. Here's a thread with some discussion about LED's and fiber optic cables there - maybe helpful to you.

every slider **** I have removed has broken,
they seem to have a few extra catches to hold them in position,
they crumble from old age

Thanks for your help gentlemen. I have a control unit from a '93 Canadian-spec GTS that was wrecked and the part has been sitting in a box for 13-15 years. Its got that funny "Celsius" reading for the temperature and I want to swap it for the "correct" face piece we use here in the colonies. In any case, Hopefully I won't snap too many plastic tabs, shred too many wires, break too many solder joints and lose too many screws.
