Default High Pressure PS Pirtek

Hi folks. The high pressure power steering hose on the S4 is leaking. The quote from Porsche is £280 inc VAT. I see a lot of folk get theirs rebuilt. I have used my local Pirtek for something before and they weren't that helpful. So if anyone can give me pointers on what they need to do then that would be great. I see a mention of swivel fittings. Is that at both ends?

Did mine about four years back ,any plant hose repair company can make them. What i did was to extend the metal part at a right angle up the inner wing and had the flexible pipe made a bit longer so the pipe now runs higher so no direct heat off the exhaust manifold.

Hi potdog got your post on tipec would have posted back there but can't remember my login until I get back to my PC (on mobile now). The only place near me is Pirtek. I had another job for them a while back and they weren't hugely helpful. I left with more questions than answers. Shifting the hose away from the heat sounds like a good idea. The PO if I recall correctly changed the rack on mine. I'm guessing he changed this line as well as none of the metal parts are discolored. Do these normally fail within several years?

Got mine fixed a few weeks ago at "Hose Doctor", they cut the hard sections of the pipe close to the rubber connections and replaced with screw on compression fitting which I tightened after I installed it so they could be rotated correctly.
They said the the fittings and pipes were rated far higher than the original, haven't had any issues so far.

I have a Pirtek franchise less than 10 minutes from me. I've found them to be useless- unless it's an industrial hose assy they have no clue.

Hi Mike, I tried the same thing with Pirtek in Edinburgh. They couldn't do the job back then (2 years ago) either.

Paul Anderson does a good repair kit which will sort you out and he'll get it to you quickly.

Cheers

Hi Marti I actually phoned Paul Anderson about this but could only speak to the receptionist. I wasn't sure what I was buying so left it but may change my mind now. What does the repair involve?

I suspected Pirtek wouldn't be much help.

Haven't seen another 928 on the Edinburgh roads for a while. What model do you drive?

I'll try my Pirtek dealer. They did some amazing jobs for me on fuel lines, including the multi curved hard line around the fuel accumulator and filter in the RR wheel well. And the long high pressure line, and the 2 flex lines in the engine bay, and, and, and...

Hi Mike, Paul A has a new flexible HP line and connector. You cut off the old swagged clap and pop on Paul's. It tightens up with ring spanners, it's a specific clamp which I believe he has been using on 928's for years without failure.

My PS line failed at the swagged clamp, the actual hp flex looked like new but the OEM clamp was poor. I've had mine on for a year or so and it's been good.

I have an Digi dash S4 which I am fitting with GTS arches and then restoring.

I ended up taking it down to pirtek this morning so we'll see what happens. I half expect a call saying they're unable to do it.

Just need to get it fixed quickly now and get it mot'd. Planning to go awat next week

Good luck with the resto.

All the negative vibes re " Pirtek " I can only claim the opposite, they did my HP line 5 years ago, fitted with a universal joint which made fitting easy, and have had no issues, maybe it's a regional thing ?

Must be regional as the Edinburgh shop struggles on most car project work I take to them. Either they don't have the fittings, the machine can't operate with the fittings or just plain no clue on a solution. I'm not sure why I bother going along.

Probably through desperation Marti, our cars are an uphill struggle at times

Sounds like a local issue. I've had good luck with Pirtek here in the American Midwest. Being a European/International operation they can handle the odd, metric sizes where other hose shops turned me away.

Ok picked the hose up today looks good. Pirtek Edinburgh have redeemed themselves in my eyes.

Looks like the section that fails could now possibly be removed from the engine bay without removing the alternator or the whole line.

They also did the small hose at the rack. Cost was £104 inc vat which is about a third of the replacement from Porsche.
