It was Michel's car (M.Tremblay). I bought it last summer. I live in St-Luc-de-Vincennes near Trois-Rivières. You have the same problem?

If the reverse clutches got replaced, the replacement clutches are more severe, than they were originally, and sometimes engage very abruptly. (Mercedes changed the clutch material once they figured out the reverse clutches wore out before any of the other internal friction parts.)

Mercedes offered a restrictor which got installed into an oil galley to the reverse piston which delayed the pressure, making engagement softer, for certain applications.

This restrictor is no longer available from Mercedes. I've never found a supplier and hand make each one, when needed.

No, not really the same problem. My tranny was just hesitant to engage in reverse( a 3 to 4 second delay), but I have not passed inspection yet. Still waiting till next week, then, see how the car drives, after being in the seat, for an hour or two.

Interesting. How much do you sell it? Is it a nasty job to do? If I have to dismantle the trans appart, I might think about it & endure it that way...

Hey Don, just bought the S4? Let me tell you that I absolutely loves this car & you won't regret it. It's old style performance & it hold's on to the road like glue, even at near 240...

How come you know Michel? Were you the one who wanted to buy it before I did?

Where doe's yours come from?

It's a small community.Luc put me in touch with Michel, as I was having troubles with my car. He explained what he did, along with communicating with Greg Brown. No, I never tried to buy it.
My car came from PEC in Ontario, originally from Toronto, undriven for 2 years, but no rust and in great shape. It is now ready for inspection next Tuesday.
Cheers
Don

Pretty simple job.

The valve body and separator plate need to be removed to install.

Yes, different problem. The long delay, followed by a hard engagement is from worn reverse clutches. The delay is caused because the piston has to travel much further to compress the clutches.

Good, send me a private message when you do. It would have been a good time since I plan on changing gaskets & oil, so if you think about making them before maybe a month or so, It's GO for me.

Sorry, I saw this message after I posted my last reply
