That's the only kind I was thinking of. Didn't even know they had a pure-play electric system with no hydraulics. The elec/hyd pump systems run +20 amps all the time to keep pressure in the circuit no matter the demand. I'd be interested to see the current demand curve for an all electric unit which could shed load under moderate highway driving. However, having said that, the times when the PS is under greatest strain is often during idle engine ops, like parking, turning from a stop light, backing into and out of garage, etc.

The reason I'm interested is my black car has a groaning PS pump and if there's an alternative that is only electric, and the demand curve is suitable, I'd be interested in swapping it in. So far, it appears no one has done that type yet.

Edit: If you could find one for a couple hundred, I might be temped to give it a tryout. Not gonna spend $1300-ish for an alpha test.

20 beans and 2 hours of your time. Remember to re-install all the bolts...

Mercedes A-class pump is the way to go in my opinion. Completely self contained. I have posted about it here before in several threads. Very easy to adapt in the 928, can even use the stock reservoir location.

He was standing in the driveway when I turned the wheel and it groaned at us. If he sells it, I'll grab it from him. If not, I'm sure he can get it from his suppliers.

Well if I can fit one in, I'm going to.
No PS pump, no aircon compressor [electric also], the alternator moved to the right hand side and SOOOO much more room for the electric water pump.

All I can say is use big wires, and maybe see that your alternator is working perfect, or get a bigger one. Hope it works out for you.

Not sure I'd want my steering assist to depend on a 928's electrical system...

The only thing worse than the 928 would be the later Lambo Espada. It used 2 alternators. One bus was for engine, fuel, lights and the other bus was for wipers, radio, AC, etc. It was a huge mess. Two fuse panels, two busses, two belts, yuch.

No, me either. It will be [if it gets up] fed from a Power cell om a CAN link to the Master cell.
This project will be setup like and inspired by Flyvmo Carl's, with InfinityBox system.

John, is your electric/hydraulic, or pure electric?

Yes, I've looked at that one and realistically that's what I think I'll end up using.
Their fully electric version with CAN bus connection for vario-matic is my favourite but I just don't see how to fit it in and of course it's over AU$8k.
Where did you fit your pump?
