That, and not many choices for 16" tires.

This '89 is a perfect example of the fact that if you put money into your 928 to make it a great and reliable driver it has to be a long-term labor of love, not an investment.

Like I wrote above: this '89GT basically comes along for free as a result of paying for a fraction of the last few years of restoration.

Assuming there's no hidden 'gotchas', there is basically no way you can buy a GT in better "driving" shape than this for less money. At this point, I'd be shocked if you can get a GT for less than $20k. Period. Unless it's been stored in swamp for a few years or its been so neglected that its almost a parts car. Even DIY you'd probably put $20k in parts into your $20k GT to get close(*) to this one. And that assumes no cosmetics.

(*) Caveat Emptor. I haven't seen this GT. I haven't looked at the records. I haven't done a PPI. I'm just assessing this GT based upon the pictures and posts. I could be wrong.

Thank you everyone for your kind words and constructive criticism. The first time Greg Brown saw this car was in the mid 1990's. The owner was servicing it at Newport Beach Porsche and they found it to have low compression. He ended up taking it to Greg for a top end engine rebuild and a bunch of other small things. The next owner who bought the car in 2002 and had it until 2016 started taking it back to Greg around 2012. Between 2012 and 2016 Greg did close to $20k worth of work for that owner. He then sold it to the current owner who (under recommendation from the previous owner) continued to take it back to Greg. In the last 3-years/3k miles he spent nearly $25k with Greg which did include the manifold and top end engine rebuild as well as A/C etc. My description on our website breaks down all the work Greg recently did. So, Greg has been working on this car off and on for the last 20+ years and was responsible for the last 8k miles-7-years of work exclusively. That recent work he performed totaled just over $40k. The owner not only didn't care for the black interior, but the leather was tired. He spent $7k on all new leather and carpet. The leather has been looked at by several top upholstery people we know and they all agreed the work was very high quality with top grade full leather. The color was super hard to photograph. The upholstery shop called it Cork. However, I think it is more of a cognac and actually looks much better than Champagne (which I have in my '84 928S). Anyway, to each his own. If it were me, I would have done Pasha inserts or something cool.

I wouldn't call this car "restored" but heavily refurbished might be better as most all the major mechanical systems have recently been gone through. All the trim and glass was removed before bare metal repaint (the original paint had burn marks from over-detailing and it bothered this owner). And, the leather and carpet were redone. If he was to keep the car longer, he would do more like the dash, *****, etc. I did order from Mark Anderson some new vents for the back. So, they will be installed. And yes, the A/C system has also been completely redone and works nicely both front and back. I also ordered some new *****. The clock is $200 and not sure the owner will let me do that.

I hope this information gives you a bit of the back story. We have every receipt from new and are more than happy to have anyone who comes by to peruse them. The pic I took was not necessarily in chronological order as there were a lot I had to fit on the table for the shot. All the white Precision Motoerwerks receipts are from the last 8k miles ago. There are also more from Greg's shop, but the older ones are different color paper and font...so, they might be harder to see. Plus, we have countless pages of notes from Greg that I did not lay out to photograph.

Of course, I welcome anyone to see the car in person and maybe report back to the group what they see. I just know that I wish this was available before I went down the rabbit hole with my 928 as this one is pretty much done.

Cheers,

Paul

Oh...PS The car DID have the original Club Sport 16" wheels when he bought the car but he hated them and sold them. He had no idea as when he first started this journey, he was not hardcore entrenched in the 928 world. He now knows the error of his ways. We've sourced a couple options for a set if the next owner wants to go that way.

DM, you'd spend $5500 just to **** off your neighbor?

I kinda like the paint concept, if I thought the paint job was professionally done, I might be more interested, but there is over spray on at least 3 of the tires.
Seller says it has red leather interior, that could be nice. I'd like to see HD photos of interior and a lot more details before I would drive across town to inspect. I can't imagine it would pass inspection due to the painted windshield and windows.
Two tires are down, makes me wonder if it runs.

The artist had fun, now it is destined for dismantling unless there is a mechanical gem there with good interior.

I agree, actually: I kind of like the paint. (But then I'm the guy with the huge white stripe.) Clearly the artistic concept was more important than the car, or they would have at least masked the windows. A shame, really.

I like the wheels! Kinda reminds me of Janis Joplin's 356.
