Bump...

Doing some searching...looking through PET etc...

<scratching head>. ya know, I don’t think my car has ever had this part (above).Always wondered why the spoiler was so flimsy under there. Thought may be it was the lack of a belly pan at the back attachment points.

where does the front spoiler actually mount to it

pulled this PIC of RL here....the red lines at aft area are where the belly pan attaches correct?

is it common to see this mounting bracket shown in Kevin’s post to be missing

It does not mount to it per se.

The tangs (or fangs) slide into the bumper cover.

The lower front belly pan is attached the the trailing edge of the front spoiler.

So THAT is what that part is supposed to look like. Mine is 100% flat! I was wondering what good it was supposed to do.

Kevin, there are some baffles that attach there, to direct airflow through the oil cooler instead of around it. They are the "winglets" on each side in Tony's pic, above.

I've never found it in PET, which gets a little vague in that neighborhood. The spoiler support is shown in PET as illustration 802-10, but nothing attached to the sides. We were just in there this afternoon, changing the oil cooler. I'll try to snap a pic in the morning before we button it up, but without part numbers that won't help much.

Paging Doctor Edwards, aisle 928.

There are two different part numbers that mount to the bottom of the front crossmember, '87 to '89 uses 92850505902. Here are two pics of one from an '89, note it has no cutouts in the front, nor are there mounting points on the ends for the 'fangs' that Jim mentions.

Truthfully, I'm not even sure why this piece is even present on the '87-89 cars, unless it's just a crumple zone thing so people didn't bend the front crossmember on parking berms (?)

Top view:

Front view- no cutouts

In '90, the oil cooler appears, so the baffle gets cutouts for airflow on the front (as does the front spoiler, of course), and fangs on the ends to seal off the airflow so it all goes through the cooler.

Looking line of sight...it must provide a bit of impact protection for the stuff behind it...?

i just don’t recall seeing it on my car, unless, like others, it is squished flat ..
