Default How's your Valentine 1 connected?

Tried to use the Valentine 1 for the first time today and found two problems:
1 The cigarette lighter connector gets in the way of the shift lever.
2 The cigarette lighter connector won't make a good contact.
Anyone have any ideas how to connect it to a switched wire?

Don't have mine on a switched circuit........didn't want to run wires all the way down to one since I have my V1 mounted right above the rear view mirror on the right side. Simply tapped into the light circuit above it in the headliner.......plenty of space up there to hide the cable connections, etc.
Bad point.......just have to remember to turn it off and on which I am now in the habbit of doing......

Good idea Mike, but with my memory I'm afraid I'd be buying batteries every week!

Ernest-
I ran a wire under the roofliner, down the "A" pillar and tapped into aux. power at the fuse panel.
Have you tried my LED rig yet?

Hi Donald,
I haven't tried the LED rig yet. It's on "the list".
I assume that the power wires are the black and red ones. What are the other two for? The black and red wires seem awfully flimsy considering they're carying a full 12 volts at battery amps.

Ernest-
If you are referring to the V-1 leads, they should have supplied you with a "telephone" uncoiled wire w/ RJ11 (?) plugs at both ends and a female snap connector to tap into power w/o cutting & splicing.

Yeah, but I thought there was a lot of extra wire with the accessory adapter that I could get rid of by tapping directly into the phone wire.

You're on your own there! What's the accessory adapter?

P.S. swap you your "list" for mine.

The direct power wire that came with my Valentine 1 has a two female power plug gizmo attached to it, one plug is for the unit and one is for a remote. It also has one black and one red fused wire coming from it. The idea is to wire the adapter into the curcuit and then plug the detector into it. There was no other direct wire with my kit.

Okay- went to the website as this did not sound familiar. I am referring to the "Wiring harness connector, Item 20310" (graphic in the parts dept.)which is what I used to tap into power. I cannot remember if I also used the 2 babe thing, probably not as I do not have the remote.

BTW, they left the "Wiring harness..." out of my kit, and refused to believe me when I called, and called, and called- the guy actually told me they weighed each package to ensure that all parts were included, and he had confirmation that mine was included....... so I paid to have "another "shipped. Sorry service, but great detectors.

I too have the V-1 hooked into the middle dome light. I did run the battery down once by leaving it on....seems that was enough to make me paranoid about leaving it on...no other instances. Makes for a relatively clean installation with minimal hanging cords.

Mine came with a 20305 into which the unit is plugged and then the 20305 is directly wired into the circuit. PIA.

I've got mine drawing power from a remote fuse panel which is tapped into the unused fuse #9(?) (factory phone) in the stock fuse panel. Power line goes to the double female receptical which is mounted above the big brain thing bolted on the driver side kick panel. The line to the V-1 runs under the trim up the A-piller, under the head liner and out the dome light hole. The remote line runs through the pod and comes up in between the gauge lens and the pod and mounts on the lower ledge of the pod inbetween the two gauges, in front of the lens.

Sounds like a lot of work, but it was very easy to install.

"...20310, as included w/ V1"
It makes life easier. Working w/ those tiny wires is like castrating newts, and we all know what a pia that can be.
Spring for the $5, and tell them to fix the scales- it's supposed to be in there.

I just finished the newt job. I decided to cop out and connect it to the dome light leads. Had to shorten the uncoiled wire by about a furlong.
I managed to stuff the two babe gizmo into the head liner.
My battery charger has a "Start" mode.
