blower removal
"To accomplish this, open flap of intake housing (move control switch lever to "AIR COND."). Unscrew mouting screw with a screwdriver inserted through open flap.
What does...move control switch lever to "AIR COND."...mean? I'm under the passenger footwell pushing the flap up with a screwdriver and sliding the control switch lever back and forth. Nothing seems to change under there.
Is the flap you're describing the drain flap? Not sure how that helps. There looked to be three screws from the top.
I got the fan out by springing the three clips that hold the halves of the housing together. Didn't try to get the bottom out as I wanted just the motor.
The three screw on the top of the housing aren't enough as the fan is too deep. Guessing that you'd be able to get the screws out once the top is off, but that wouldn't be much help. Everthing is pretty tight. I don't think I'd be able to get the clips back on. Made me wonder how the heck they put it in there in the first place.
Not much help, I know. If you're stymied later, post or PM me and I'll take a look. We knocked off for the day as it started to rain and covered the hulk. Maybe after dinner or certainly tomorrow I could take another look and post better info.
Which of your cars are you working on? The 84 has a different climate control than the 78. IIRC, the 78 could even have a full manual model, though it may be auto.
Rules of engagement change on cars made on either side of the 84 line of demarcation.

What should be a 2 hour job tops is taking all day.
I updated my profile. The 78 is a 911.
So the 94 928S will not let me remove the blower because the bottom phillips head bolt cannot be accessed. I'm thinking that I have to remove the whole assembly in the passenger footwell.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
I'm beginning to think someone put an updated grille that covers the screw. There is a platic post where the screw should be. I think the updated grille is covering access to the screw. Would that make sense?

WallyP,
Thanks to your advise and the advise of others on this BBS, I found the screw. However, it's a bolt that was covered with black silicon rubber. Man, I feel stupid, but happy. It was not inside of the...now torn up flap...but is was on the "trailing edge" of the grill. The angle looked weird so I never suspected that was it.
Now to carry on...
