What holds down the MAF?
'83 US-spec AT
I pulled the air filter assembly to permit inspection of fuel lines, etc. On re-assembling, I note that the below unit (apparently a MAF) is just lying there - unattached except for the 4 bolts affixing it to the bottom of the filter housing. That housing is then attached via a larger bolt at each end, to a flimsy stand-off.
Seems pretty flaky and leaky to me, even nonporschelike, so obviously something's wrong or missing.
But what?

nope, thats it. the AfM fits into the "u" with light interference fit and that rubber o-ring is the seal
up top, the bolts that hold the air box to the engine is all that presses it all together.
those 4 bolts are more than enough to bolt it to the airbox... now thats the airbox, AFM assembly. it fits down into the "u" with a rubber o-ring and then secured by the stand offs for the air box mount... its VERY secure and not flakey at all.
you can call it the "AFM" as the MAF leads people to think about the Hot wire LHjet air flow meter system

Well, it went back together and seems solid enough. In my case, it made sense to assemble the air filter housing with the AFM, and then drop the whole thing into place.
I expected to discover that there's a missing fitting made of Grade 2 Unobtanium, new NLA but available used for $400. Porsche missed an opportunity here...
Thanks!
